Re: Dry Your Washing Without the Tumble Drier....

If the weather is really good for drying outside it's worth turning the spin speed on your washing machine to it's minimum. Mother Nature will dry your washing and you'll save a bit of leccy :flower:

Re: Courgette time again!!

Bonjour folks - Prison Break Fan mentioned chocolate courgette cake - this is the one I make and I challenge anyone to realise there's courgette in it: Chocolate Courgette Cake 170g (6oz) butter 400g (14oz) sugar 3 eggs - beaten 2tsp vanilla essence (or use vanilla sugar) 285g (10oz) grated courgett...

I wash out any freezer bags I use so they get used plenty of times.

Last of the spuds

I've just roasted the last of last year's crop of spuds and reluctantly added potatoes to my shopping list.

But the first of the earlies in the polytunnel are just showing though so the cycle starts again

Re: what have you cooked today

i keep meaning to make bara brith. somewhen I must admit I thought it was one of your 52 recipes but obviously not. I made it recently under the name Old Fashioned Teabread and was told I had in fact made Bara Birth (which I think sounds much nicer!) And it is scrummy ...... should I really have ha...

Re: Ish Springwatch 2010

I was away in the UK from Sun to Thursday and in that time all the spring flowers seem to have burst into bloom - anemones, violets, wild daffodils, cowslips, primroses etc. The early purple orchid leaf whorls are growing nicely and on a slightly different note, our frogspawn has hatched :hello1:

Re: Why set the alarm clock?

I have an alarm clock (without a snooze button) because without it I would not get up in time to do animals and get boys to school. That said I am usually awake before it goes off - EXCEPT on the days I forget to set it

Re: what have you cooked today

Sounds interesting. I always freeze apples, blackberries and redcurrents, am assuming you froze the sloes and elderberries, I have never thought of doing this, will have to give it a try this year. :flower: Exactly. 1kg of apples (crab or cooking - chopped whole) and 1kg of mixed berries. Add 1.2l ...

I made hedgerow jelly yesterday - apples, blackberries, sloes, elderberries and a few redcurrants. And very nice it was too on my toast this morning.

Re: 101 Ish Tips for new allotment holders.

12. Get to know other allotment holders - they hold a wealth of information and often have freebie seedlings etc to give away 13. Decide what you really like to eat and grow that first. As you get more experienced and confident add more crops to your growing list 14. If at first you don't succeed - ...

Re: And...we're off!

Frosts have gone (for now anyway) so today I planted:

Shallots
Onion sets
Parsnips
Broad beans

In the PT I have started various brassicas, lettuces, celeriac, various japanses veggies and transplanted some lettuce seedlings I bought yesterday.

All very satisfying but loads to go still!!

Re: How do you make extra income from your backyard or farm?

I sometimes think the UK is the only country who pays heed to such laws. Whenever anything is in season over here there are wholesalers who pop up all over town to buy your excess olives, cherries, figs, almonds etc. In Italy and many other other places in Europe laws such as these are generally se...
