Re: wooden toys

yes, train sheds, stations etc - spaceships - not much out there in spaceships for the discerning eco-parent, toys big enough to fit action figures in? We went through one summer making lego contraptions big enough to get the Thunderbirds guys in. Or cash in on latest crazes, eg kennel for Slinky, s...

Re: what are you harvesting?

was greeted by the delightful sight of three rows of rampant broad beans, like so many smooth naked circumcised winkies nodding up at me tonight. Marvellous. And more peas than even I can eat in one sitting! Blackcurrants, red goosegogs, beetroots, oriental lettuces....num num num

Re: Rogue's Gallery

it was a May Day Naked Gardening - thankfully it wasn't too cold. Would've had somewhere to hang my gloves if it had been! And yes, there is a website. Don't worry - I don't do Naked Gardening all the time!

Re: cunning insults

quite good to say to someone who is good at pretending to work, while creating more paperwork, sloping off to "discussions" etc - "you're very officious". Sounds like efficient. Means the opposite. And Churchill's spat with Lady Astor - "Winston, I do believe you're drunk&qu...

Re: Am I being a mean Mother?

don't know how old he is - we are having to start teaching our 6 yr old about the value of money. He asks for something - I have to say "I can't afford it" (which I invariably can't). I am contemplating starting pocket money, just so he can start to learn the amounts needed. And chores, wh...

Re: Breast feeding, socially unacceptable or not?

well said, Old Fella. If you decide to breastfeed, then that is what you have decided to do. And you will do it. I nver found I had time to think about if I was being discreet or not, as I had a hungry demanding baby to feed, so I just did it. Had I had time to feel I was making a statement, then it...

Re: A little bit pregnant...

Just read this. Agree with the "don't beat yourself up" bits - but I continue to do so, as that is the kind of person I am. Having had number 1 son on gas and air, I had swanned around planning if not a home birth, then the most loved up natural birth possible in a hospital. Ended up with ...

Re: The Dandelions can stay.

yes - dandelion fritters. For some reason the eldest is quite taken with dandelions this year, so I have decided to take a leaf out of Alys Fowler's glossy made-for-tv book and try dandelion fritters. Dandelion flowers in pancake batter and fried.

Re: Pushed into a corner or what!

I appreciate what it is to have a very bright, astute young person around, who asks questions that you feel you should answer honestly but leaves you feeling worried and nervous that you are leading on to more questions. The discussion really is for Gail to have with Leah, but obviously at a time wh...
