Re: Any Ishy Bloggers out there?

I have a couple of Blogs - one is my unofficial stuff and photos - the other is for the social enterprise my wife and I have started. Would be nice to know what you think of them. Thanks.

Re: Prepared For Survival Blog

Here is a tip for people preparing for some future disaster, of the survivalist type: Do not turn yourself into a target. If you stockpile useful stuff, then when supplies run out for other people guess where they will look next? You! Then you will need all the guns and ammo you can lay your hands ...

Re: ........ plastic 4 pint milk bottles

How about a goat? They seem pretty good at storing milk  I'd quite like to get my hands on glass bottles, and a glass cutting kit, cut the necks off the bottles to make a drinking glass. Grind the rim to a smooth surface and then sell as recycled product. Not sure how the dairy would feel about...

Re: How do I get motivated?

Hello all In my case - It is not so easy when the motivation was previously "what will others think?", a sort of guilt and sense of what is expected - which is often derived from artificial standards set by TV advertising - all those cleaning products, gleaming surfaces, immaculate houses ...

Re: How do I loose my beer belly

The beer belly is probably partly due to bloating caused by food intollerance. Going off gluten for a month will reveal if that is the culprit. Yoga helps in ways that hard physical exercise often doesn't, by toning and twisting, helping the gut do its job too. Sitting too much also causes bad postu...

Re: hello from Orkney

Hi I am scratching my head, wondering what things people should really be doing to reduce their negative impact and increase their positive impact, both environmentally and socially? I'm looking for quantitative or well researched ideas - so if anyone has got suggestions of websites or other resourc...

Re: hello from Orkney

I must remind myself of how lucky we have been, keeping relatively dry, when later in the year it is still cool here and mainland Scotland basks in sunshine. My willows would like more moisture though

Best wishes

Re: hello from Orkney

Thanks Maggie! It has been a wee bit windy the passed days but mostly with sun, which is a tad puzzling to be honest. I grew up in Wales, where wind also means rain. Maybe like NW Scotland too? Is that your polytunnel in the pic? If so, can we have some advice? Always good to learn from others. Keep...

hello from Orkney

I thought I'd better say hello since I have been off line for soooo long. Moved house but still living West Mainland, Orkney Islands, Scotland. Spring is here again and the nettles are harvesting well. Been experimenting with seaweeds as food, dye and fertiliser ... now need to plant out. G...

Yurt

Hello Malcolm, nice to here from you again. Are yous two still living in a yurt up there? Hi - no we moved out of the yurt into an 18th century town house in Stromness (renting). That said, we are looking to acquire a yurt or similar but in the mean time, I need a workshop, and Rachel needs some wa...

Road Kill Fan - waste not want not

Hi - I am delighted to be back on here - been too long (feel like someone out of prison, ha ha) Any chance of seeing fergus again on tv? I got a rabbit last week - still warm - hated to see it go to waste. Why do we turn our backs on such healthy food and instead throw our money at the supermarkets?...

Hello from Orkney - good to see you on here.

Im a big fan of the Crannog centre and infact I teach stone age skills myself, like fire making and stone tools working - a lot of relevance to self sufficiency.
