Re: Pair of matching rustic cupboards.
Thanks for the favourable comments. Have not had chance to respond until now as have been horrendously busy! The cupboards are just skinny, protruding only 5 inches from the wall. All that is in them are holes in the wall which in fact are high level vents for the open fire in the room. I am able to...

Re: Poorly chickens but I don't know what
When mine moult they lose a few feathers which I notice in the shed then they grow new ones. The moulting process does not seem to be such a big deal. Additionally they have never all moulted together. I currently have 1 in moult out of 4. Have you checked your shed & nest boxes at night with a ...
Re: red mite
Tried the blowtorch. Found it did not reach the critters hidden deep in the tongued & grooving. It would have worked at night though when they are all roaming around but I use straw bedding!

Re: Pair of matching rustic cupboards.
The hinge pins are just some big rusty old nails I raked out of the fire. Was initially going to shorten them to a sensible length but then decided to leave them as they are.

Is it toads that have 9 lives?
A couple of weeks ago I was cutting some grass with my big old scythe and noticed something roll over in the grass as I swung the scythe. I noticed it was a toad, totally unharmed, it was just rolled over by the grass. It was about tea time so I popped it onto my veg patch to get stuck into some slu...

Raspberry supports:
2 rows of wires five feet high and 18 inches to 2 feet apart. Just leave any canes that grow within the wires but discard strays. No need to tie them as they are enclosed.

Seaweed every time. Won't have been sprayed and has no weed seeds in it. I once grew an enormous crop of potatoes in it with the best individual potato weighing 5 and a half pounds.

Re: Variety is everything.
Sorry cannot name the varieties I found to be poor. I started out with the right intentions making a plan of the garden listing all varieties of strawberries, gooseberries, red, white & black currants etc then lost it. I don't bother with netting on the rasps & strawberries I am quite happy ...
Re: red mite
I had an serious infestation of Red Mite a couple of years ago, birds stopped laying & one died!. They were living in the tongued & grooved nest box and droppings board. I tried Barrier and a couple of other things which proved hopeless. I burned the nest box & replaced with a seamless a...

Re: A good days work OR a day wasted?
To reply to last 2 posts. We will have to eat that many! Been eating Broad Bean pasties for the last 3 days. Story is that last year I planted 184 seeds outside and the mice snaffled 181. The replanted crop did poorly. This year I planted 510 or so in paper pots in the greenhouse and planted them ou...
