Re: The new banish plastic movements

Plastic packaging has always annoyed and baffled me - often in equal measure. I may have mentioned it once or twice. I can feel my hackles rising as I think of ridiculous examples, so I won't go there. Yes I will, plastic-wrapped coconuts in their shell, peeled oranges in little plastic boxes, trays...

Re: Storm Dylan?

That was the point I was making, albeit rather flippantly - I still think not having direct contact to metal e.g via an old-fashioned tractor seat might be quite important though.

Re: Storm Dylan?

Looks like saying put paid off - do tractors still have metal seats? I'm guessing not.

Re: Storm Dylan?

That's very good to hear, KL. Following a storm a couple of years ago, where we were without power for a week (although they managed to get power through to us for at least an hour in every 24hr period - so no refunds) we invested in one of those small suitcase generators. It's just powerful enough ...

Re: Storm Dylan?

Dylan missed us entirely. I think the jet stream, or whatever it is that decides the path of these things, must have moved south as we seem to be getting the best of the weather - for now.

Re: The not buying new compact?

I lost two clothes sizes last year and all my replacements came from Ebay (I didn't bother replacing the in-between size, just when my clothes got really too big). I have to confess that I was really excited to be able to get into more fashionable clothes, even though I'm hardly a follower of fashio...

Re: Garden diaries

I take a more slapdash approach - they get sown when I remember to do hem. That said, we have compost warming on the windowsills (in containers obviously) to sow toms, peppers, salad leaves and herbs tomorrow. They would have been done today but we hadn't given thought to how cold it was! So we sort...

Re: Unwanted presents?!

It's a tough time of year, ina - cold, low light, enforced jollity and professions of goodwill that are often noticeably absent the rest of the year. I think you did right in accepting it, it may not be what you wanted (or needed) but I think that sometimes it's nice to know you're being thought of ...

Re: Gardening Indoors

We've grown small amounts of salad leaves in seed trays. Succession planting a week apart over a few weeks gave each tray time to recover from a picking and they didn't take up much room on the sills.

Starting to look like either the perfect tomato or a tomato triffid.

Keep us informed - if you go quiet we'll know you've sprouted something out of the little shop of tomato horrors.

I read that last word as irritation. Both may be equally applicable.
