Re: What i'm brewing at the moment

I'm bartering with one of my colleagues for a load of rhubarb. I'd like to make some wine with it but I wondered what flavours go well with it - any tried and tested recipes you could pass on? Would rhubarb and elderflower work well? :flower: :study:

Re: Chickens or Ducks ?

I've kept both and ducks definitely do more damage to a run. Chooks will scratch up ground in serach of bits of grit and the odd bug, but ducks will go through the ground sifting it with their bills if it's damp and eat grass roots and all, resulting in a quagmire unless you've got a lot of ground t...

Re: Anyone growing veg northern scotland?

Hi Ovalina, I'm about the same latitude as Green Aura but I don't have a polytunnel sadly. I haven't been brave enough to try asparagus but I grow all the same things as you - my onions haven't been too bad though, but some are suffering from an unidentified soil pest which means they don't store ve...

Re: what to do with dried chickpeas and puy lentils?

If your budget can stretch to some sausages, you can make a sausage and lentil casserole. Fry off some finely chopped onion and sausages together slowly and gently until browned all over and the onions are sweet and sticky. Add chopped garlic and a splash of stock or red wine to deglaze. Add the len...

Re: Anyone out there live near a decent wool shop?

Nice idea, BirdieWife - problem is that we bank with Bank Of Ireland - who uses Laser cards.... we won't have Visa or such, so buying online from anywhere other than an irish online site is nigh on impossible. Even Paypal doesn't accept Laser, so we're a bit stuck :? Irish companies are notorious f...

Re: Anyone out there live near a decent wool shop?

You can get bargains off ebay, and it's often more expensive buying wool from the local shop than online. For online suppliers, try http://www.abakhanfabrics.co.uk/ and http://www.celticove.com/for starters, but there's loads out there.

Hi Sally Jane, I'm not that far from Green Aura as the hooded crow flies and I manage to grow garlic, cabbages, perpetual spinach, beetroot, potatoes, broad beans, peas, salads and virtually all kinds of root veg very sucessfully. I've never managed to ripen any outdoor tomatoes but other people up ...

I won't number this because it was said tongue-in-cheek. Probably. At least I hope so

My colleague, who lives next-door-but-one, asked me if I could stop my cat winding his dog up, because his dog chased my cat and hurt himself :?
