Is there anyone out there who has ever found a truffle?
Does anyone have any experience of truffle foraging?
I'm looking for things like, time of year, susceptible trees, areas of the country, just general info.

Grow your own veg!-Carol Klein
Grow your own veg! Or at least I would if you told me how to. I wait these programmes earnestly, as I do a good book. Like Monty Don, Carol has used Gardener's world to project herself into horticultural fame. I waited weeks for Monty Don's programme after reading the article printed about it months...

Hey there,
Greenhouses can be really useful for winter. I'd go for some salads, I think there are some good lettuces which can cope with the cold. Try www.seedsofitaly.com.
Similarly, check out the self sufficientish article on peas because some varieties can be sown in autumn.
Hope this helps.

Yeah perfectly normal. This is the plant cloning itself. If you wait until just as it starts producing new shoots next spring, you can transplant the new crown so it has more room and will be the next generation's crop. Just as an afterthought, it is very advisable to divide your crown of rhubarb at...

Courgette: tissues and issues
Hey people, Just checking out www.seedsofitaly.com and i considered buying some courgette seeds which is says can be sown from august to october (or similar). How does that work? Don't the little seedlings just die in the frost? Oh and there's loads of windfall fruit (rubbish for eating)-can I put t...

Woah guys don't mean to butt in on all the fun but I have a question and can't really be bothered to start a new post. Last summer a concealed blackberry grew and rotted. What remained was a little cluster of seeds. I then immersed these seeds in tepid water and planted them into john innes no. 1 (o...

The truffle....a shroud of mystery
I just read this article in the sunday times (yes that's right) about truffle hunting. It sounds SO MUCH fun but devilishly difficult. Firstly, I think I need a spaniel. I have a tabby cat so she will do. I also have to spray 'frozen truffle' in front of my stalion's nose. Then, after a thunderstorm...

Hey Right....fig trees are the bane of my life...and I've done a lot of reading. First of all...never EVER (and I mean this) plant Fig trees into English soil. They grow emphatically, using the high nitrogen content in the soil to produce huge leaves (which I think by the way have a poisonous chemic...
