Re: How can I get rid of Couch grass?

So Toms and Turnips then!

The Tomato thing is very interesting. One of my two onion beds is more troubled by couch than the other and guess what was growing in it last year. Tomatoes!

Next year I might volunteer to grow Toms for the whole community and fill the whole garden with them!

Re: Purple "NOT" sprouting Brocolli!

Green Aura, it has been in since last spring. I'm convinced it's me! I'm losing my green fingers
Think what Odsox says makes sense so I think I'll leave it where it is for now and see what happens.

Purple "NOT" sprouting Brocolli!

This is the second year in a row that I've tried to grow the stuff but it just doesn't "sprout"! Last year I grew one plant and it just grew leaves and nothing else. By the beginning of June I finally gave up and pulled the monster sized plant up. This year I grew two plants (from the same...

Re: How can I get rid of Couch grass?

I do use a fork to dig to avoid breaking it up. Do you think if I'm vigilant it will eventually go away (I've been on it's case for two years already!)? I don't use weedkillers anywhere usually but I'm starting to think I may have to set my green credentials to one side for a bit as the only other a...

How can I get rid of Couch grass?

I have a mini veggie plot that consists of a few raised beds and however many pots n tubs I can squeeze in but I am plagued with couch grass. The whole plot lies on a raised area of the garden which has a haphazard dry stone wall at one edge where the couch just loves to weave and wind it's way thro...

I just popped on here to get help with a question (i'll shove that in the relevent forum in a mo') but realised that it is exactly 1 year to the day (spooky) that I posted my first introduction and I haven't been on since  So, I thought I'd better say hi all over again  Hi. You are all so lucky to have been brought up in such a life... I am starting from scratch, teaching myself everything as I go along... Am I really the only newcomer to all this? I am a new comer really! My Nana made sure I had a tiny seed of "selfsufficientishness" sown in me before my pa...

I hate shopping too! If I "need" anything I trawl the local charity shops, freecycle, ebay etc and then if I really have to buy new I use the internet. I spend at least a couple of days searching every corner of the net to check and double check that I've found the best price and then make...

Hi from North Yorkshire!

Just joined up and am so excited to have found this forum! I don't consider myself as "selfsufficient" but "selfsufficient"ish" now thats me! I try to be green as much as possible but with four kids life has a tendancy to run at a much faster pace than I'd like and I do find...
