Re: Is it too late?

Yes in my opinion - especially this year as everything is growing late.

Re: Well, poop!

This planting out after all danger of frost - well the weather forecast never consults the growers about when it would be convenient to have the last frost.

Re: No rubbish fortnight

Your charges sound about the same as ours Skippy. Mind you, small electricals such as computer printers, radios, TVs, can be put in the appropriate skip free of charge. If you have a car to get there. Dunno about big things like cookers and fridges.

Re: No rubbish fortnight

This week is a much rubbish fortnight. The elderly huge printer went to the electrical bin at the local household waste recycling centre. Of course there is all the packaging left over from the new one. There's a huge number of empty compost sacks to go to the same place from the allotment shed at s...

Re: Onions

There's discussion over on one of the gardening forums about the onion sets going to seed this year. In the UK they are supposed to be heat treated but people are wondering if this always happens of late. Also heat and dry weather seems to affect whether or not seed heads form.

Re: Food waste

Tinned and packet is fine for a bit longer unless you have someone in the house who is convinced that using a tin of baked beans after midnight on the last day of the use by date will poison you. There's a few of them around.

Re: Onions

It's still an odd year, temperatures here have been mid 20's by day and mid 10's overnight for a few weeks and still a lot of things are well behind. I thought plants were supposed to catch up, but perhaps nobody told them. Listen I have a whole literary of things I have done wrong never mind thing...

Re: Food waste

Both dates are guidance. Storage is important. Buying too much is often more of a problem. I suspect that if people only bought what they were going to use over the next week or so there would be a lot less of a hang up about best before and use by.
