Re: Allotment Rent

I have 1/4 plot (15.5m x 9m) which is £2.50 a year. I'm happy, and it's only 2 minute walk away.

Re: Top 10 Things for my New Allotment.

i would get a compost bin together. dont know about norfolk council (would be interested to know as we might be moving to norwich next year!) but some councils subsidise them for about 80% of the price (not brilliant at percentages but from about £40 to £5). if not, source a few pallets (sp?) and k...

Re: Top 10 Things for my New Allotment.

Thank you so much for the advise, I have absorbed the lot, I am very excited about getting going. I will be taking pics as I go so hopefully will be able to keep you all informed.

I will still be keeping an eye on this thread if anyone else has any advice or ideas, it all helps.

Top 10 Things for my New Allotment.

I have just taken over an allotment waist high in thistles, any advise on where to start. And what would you recommend are the top ten tools or things that I might need, I am on a very tight budget.

Re: My sqaush is bent.

Thanks everyone. It isn't broken but the stalk had bent in a 90 degree angle, not just dislodged. I thought it would be dead by now but its hanging in. I'll nurse it the best I can. I'll let you know if it survives. If anyone knows anything I can do to help it, please let me know.

My sqaush is bent.

Please can someone help. I put my squash in its pot out side to catch some rays, went out for the day and when I came back the wind had bent the stalk, I've earthed it up to straighten it back up. do you think it'll leave? or has it had it? Is there anything else it can do to help it.

Potato Tyres

I have three different lots of potatoes growing in tyres as per a recomendation on this site. The first lot has started to grow, how tall does it need to be before I start adding more soil/compost? And how do i know when they are ready to dig up?
