Re: Making cheese with cream

I made the mascarpone and it tasted fab! There was hardly any whey at all (unlike when I tried to make mozarella and got 1.5 litres of whey out of 2 litres of milk!) I used mine to make american style pancakes as well as half and half whey and water in my bread machine to make bread. It makes it soo...

Re: Making cheese with cream

Thanks for that! I have found a home brew shop near me that sells tartaric acid so I'm going to go buy it and give it a whirl. I don't have a dairy thermometer (yet) but my sugar thermometer should be arriving tomorrow. I think it starts at 0.C so it should be okay until I get the other one. I have ...

Re: Making cheese with cream

You can make an easy mascarpone using the cream, by heating it to 185F and adding 1/8 tsp tartaric acid, and stir till the cream becomes the consistency of baby cereal or very fine porridge. I found some! I found some! I found some! Sorry about the extreme level of excitedness. They're my first ever find so I'm so so pleased! They got eaten by the lawn mower monster but I don't care! :flower:

A lot of the woods around here have huge patches covered in wild garlic - smells great and it seems to transplant well too (make sure you get a big clump of the bulbs and surrounding soil). It does prefer shade though, on the few days we have had sunshine it has looked really miserable (almost layi...

I haven't found any mushies either up here godfreyrob. I'm in Leeds. The only thing that was plentiful (at least it was a week and half ago) was jelly ears and yesterday I was very surprised to see a huge common inkcap growing in a hedgerow. I'm really looking forward to munching it with breakfast t...

Hello from Leeds/Bristol!

Hello everyone!

It seemed about time I joined the Ish world so here I am! :hello2: I am a foraging addict, a bit OCD about jam-making, love being outdoors and dream of being a smallholder. :)
