Re: electric motorbike

I had a cute little scooter - but the petrol kind. Last May I graduated to a bicycle :) It's much easier to deal with harsh weather on a bicycle than a motorbike, especially chilly weather. (Tho' I've only used it once, I have a bus option if it's truly heinous and my commute's just 7 miles... and m...

Re: Cycle to work

I can promise you will wonder *why* you waited. Lots and lots of people get stuck in "someday." Make a plan to make it happen :D

Re: Folding Bicycle

I just got a Dahon that's serving me quite well. That's the brand the bike shop that does all my work sells (well, they started selling them when I ordered it... and have sold four more since). I've put 800 miles / 1290 km on it and I love the way it bounces over potholes and squirts up hills.

Oh, yea, seats :(

Never seems that a bike comes with the right one. My bike shop lets you test ride most of the models.

But ... great that you got it! Keep working on getting the fit that feels right - it's totally worth it.

I was going to stick some things in the ground (totally new at this so don't expect much!) ... but it's supposed to dip below the freezing point tonight. I wondered if it would matter if the silly kernels were still below the ground.

Too cheap would be a blunder. The cheap things aren't really made to be ridden - more to be taken out a few times and then sat in the garage. Depending on where you are it can be a challenge to find a bike person who understands commuting needs - lots of times a bike nerd is into goin' fast ... or l...

DOn't know from the kid issues but tossing a vote in for paying extra for quality and people who know what they're doing. If you're going to use the thing and put miles on it...

I got an xtracycle myself and am inordinately fond of it for hauling just about everything.

It's totally do-able. The more you do it, the easier it will get. I have a 6 mile commute (one-way) through this college town. At first it was an event. I figured out my route (practiced it on a weekend), read a lot about how to ride in traffic and practiced that, too.. and then I was working part t...
