Thanks everyone. I'll go out and take a better photo tomorrow and post it. I appreciate the help.

Re: Can anyone help identify these please

Thanks for that and I think you are definitely right about the first one. I'm not sure about the Rowan though as I don't remember having seen any berries on it and it's definitely a big bush rather than a tree. We only moved here in November though so perhaps I missed them last year. The leaves seem...

Re: can they do this to him??

Any type of P forms from HMRC are related to PAYE and these particular forms are for odd people like reps etc (travelling to and from work is not claimable generally under PAYE). But he CAN claim all of his motoring costs against self-employed profits (this is fuel, tax insurance, maintenance etc) l...

Re: Can you move from the country to the town and be happy?

Do a pros and cons chart. Something makes me think the pros will win. You are lucky to be renting as once you are in place and find perhaps it isn't what you want (although, who's to say, it may just be perfect) you can take your time to look around. It sounds as if it's a really stressful situation...

Re: Any ideas what these are?

Just to finalise this thread.... They were --- daturas!

I have no idea where the seeds came from. I had some double upright purple ones from a friend in Spain but I've lost them and have never planted any. These were upright, single and white. Very pretty but a complete mystery...

Re: Cover a yard?

Thanks for these ideas. I like the gazebo idea, the sides could be battened to the conservatory and garage and then uprights and cross-pieces down the two other open sides and joist type bars across the middle to make the whole thing secure. I imagine it would need internal supports too though, 18' ...

Re: Cover a yard?

I like the full polytunnel idea but as we have a door from the house, one into the garage and one to the drive on three separate walls one of them would be blocked, no matter how we arranged things. The alternative would be a small one we could walk around from the outside but I really do like the i...

Cover a yard?

We are about to move, yet again. We will only have a small garden which is across the driveway (it's the coach house which is part of a sort of country estate) plus a lovely internal "secret" courtyard with lawn, shrubs and high walls, plus a large back yard. The back yard is boundaried by...

Weather!

What IS going on? This is supposed to be flaming June. I was up at 7am clearing culverts and drains blocked with leaves, twigs and even branches and stones brought down out of the hills. Even had to go back in for longer wellies at one point as the puddles and ditches were so deep. The lane outside ...

Re: Any ideas what these are?

No, just basic moneymaker & tom thumb. It's that first pair of leaves that are so distinctive (and tomato like). They don't look like those on the huckleberry and there aren't any on that photo Davie Crockett posted so I can't compare. Are they similar on your daturas, MKG? I remember looking fo...

Re: Any ideas what these are?

Still not sure about daturas, the leaves and stems on these are hairy, like tomatoes, and quite soft. The daturas seem shinier and stiffer somehow. I can't think I had any huckleberry seeds either. Perhaps I'll have to wait until they develop a bit more. And I'll go through my seed box again. I don'...

Re: Any ideas what these are?

They all sprang up together in one little pot in a tray of what was otherwise French beans. I transplanted them into this tray when they just had the first two leaves on and they definitely looked like vigorous tomatoes at that point, they have the same hairy stems. I've been through all the seeds I...

Any ideas what these are?

I seem to have managed to lose the label on this tray. I initially thought they were tomatoes but they don't look like any of the others I have. They don't have that smell either, although they don't smell of anything much. They are vigourous and about 4 inches tall. Any ideas anyone? http://i328.ph...

What can you see from your window?

For once it isn't raining in mid Wales so I took this photo this morning. Usually there are plenty of sheep over there which seem to have disappeared. I can also see I need to do some weeding/chopping etc over by the river and weeding on the drive. Oh well... http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l360/...
