Re: Dehydrator hints
Corn kernels go well, so do potato cubes. I have read you can dehydrate soup..... Nev Nah, the soup would fall through the holes  I have just done some broad beans (to go with the peas I did earlier). The thing about drying beans and peas rather than let them dry naturally is they stay a nice ...

Solar heating cylinder
Can anyone explain to me why you need a new cylinder for evacuated tube heating set up ? I am seriously thinking of installing a 20 tube panel and as far as the costs are concerned it is just about do-able, until you see the part about needing a brand new stainless steel cylinder costing well over a...

Re: too many egg whites
As you seem to have a dog, may I suggest feeding him/her the occasional omelette ?
Mine loves them and gets one now and again when eggs start to build up to silly proportions.

Re: Dehydrator hints
onions. i just did a batch and they are delicious. very sweet and smelly but lovely! i would also recommend tomatoes, pretty much any fruit. also a bit of an unusual one - try dehydrated potato crisps - slice them as thinly as poss, dip them in lemon juice to preserve the colour, (with your favouri...

Re: Dehydrator hints
Peas!? How interesting; what do you use dried peas for - do you use them just like 'dried green split peas' for soups and things? delish! Ah .. you must be young then ! Dried peas used to be a common winter vegetable before the freezer took over. Just soak and cook like any dried bean (haricot or c...

Re: Dehydrator hints
I can add mushrooms and pineapple to the list.
Mushrooms I dry till they're really brittle then crumble into soups/stews, pineapple till it's leathery .. keeps for ages.
Peas I did this year, mainly because I was overwhelmed with them.
And tomatoes ... just as good as 'sun-dried'

Sorry I can't help you on this other than to tell you to keep an eye on the humidity. What I would like to say is that it is interesting the difference between England and Ireland. England is of course an industrial society and all the interest is in commerce. In Ireland it is still very much an agr...

Shouldn't that be Te$$co ?
Maybe all Te$co customers should now shop in M&S and help them out of their troubles.

Re: MINK!!!!
They are really nasty creatures and I would have no qualms at all about turning them into coats. My first encounter with a mink was several years ago when one got hold of my last remaining duck. It had sunk it's teeth into the ducks neck and was trying to drown it in a small pond. The only weapon I ...
Re: MINK!!!!
So that's it ... I give up. Mind you it just fed my chicken obsession - last year I had 4.....now I have 12  You're right ... my insistence that I would have no more chicken lasted overnight. The next morning I was given 3 sets of garden furniture for free. Well and truly 'shop soiled' but I h...

Re: Mystery plant??
Not necessarily fat hen.
If you bought or were given the seeds (as opposed to plants that just came up on their own) they could well be Quinoa.
I'm growing Quinoa for the first time this year and the plants are identical to fat hen.
At least I hope I'm not cultivating fat hen by mistake![smurf :smurf:](./images/smilies/icon_smurf.gif)

Re: garlic
I would leave it open during the day then.
You must have recently watered in there ... I assumed that if you had no plants it would be bone dry by now.

Re: garlic
A small greenhouse is ideal for drying off many things garlic, onions and squash all need ripening with heat to make them store better. If there's nothing growing in your mini greenhouse you could even leave the door closed and let the temperature go up in the 30's C. A week of sunny weather should ...
