Re: Cry for Nettle-Eating help in Devon

not that I know of, possibly on one of the sky channels I don't get,
I think John Wright from River Cottage is more of a celebrity, especially with the folk on this forum.

Re: What kind of tree is this?

looks like we have a winner with Hawthorn, I feel wiser already, although it's a shame it's not sloe, i could have whipped up some delicious gin. Hmmm, maybe I'll just have to plant some sloe. :p

Re: Cry for Nettle-Eating help in Devon

unfortunately not, it was a bit far for me to go, would have been fun to watch though. I'll have to get my friend to send me a copy of the episode once it's been aired

Re: Cry for Nettle-Eating help in Devon

Hi, sorry, work got a bit manic these last couple of weeks, been meaning to come back and post. I was after someone to help mentor a Canadian Celebrity Chef, Bob Blumer (The Surreal Gourmet), who was entering for his series Glutton for Punishment, but it was John Wright, the Fungi Expert from River ...

What kind of tree is this?

This bad boy is on the edge of my allotment, it looks as though it's beginning to fruit, just wondering if anyone could identify what kind of tree it is and whether I will get delicious things from it. http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss212/Jaz_Allen/Allotment/utf-8BUDEwLTA4LTA5XzE4LjM1LkpQRw-2.jpg

Re: Cry for Nettle-Eating help in Devon

It's not Hugh, he's not as famous as Hugh, but you're not far off, I won't say any more as I don't want to get my friend in trouble. And yes, the Wurzels are playing. I'd be tempted to nip down but I've got tickets for Gardener's World Live that day. And Devon is a long way to go from Nottingham to ...

Cry for Nettle-Eating help in Devon

This is partially a post to advertise this crazy event, held next Saturday, 13th June at The Bottle in in Marshwood, Dorset: The Bottle Inn More importantly, does anyone on the forums know how to get in touch with the current world champion, Paul Collins, of Seaton, Devon. He is supposed to be tutor...

Re: Got my Allotment, need some advice

While it has been over a month since I was offered the plot, it took the council two weeks to send out the agreement, and I've still not got a key for the site. Fortunately the site is pretty busy at weekends so getting in hasn't been an issue, and I have managed to start clearing the mass of brambl...

Re: If you show me yours...

Julie, That looks amazing, it's the kind of thing I have vaguely in the back of my mind for when I finish clearing back all the brambles and dead wood on my new plot. What size are your raised beds? I have been trying to work out what size I should be planning on that will still let me plant and wee...

Re: Got my Allotment, need some advice

Thanks for the warnings, I'll just repot the pumpkins and sweetcorn for now then, they are getting too big for the seed tray, and concentrate on getting at least the potato bed and possibly the carrots/onions/leeks etc. bed in this weekend. This is assuming the key to the allotment site arives in th...

Re: Got my Allotment, need some advice

Thanks for the advice, I'm still waiting on a key to the allotment site, and the weather has been a bit dire. With a bit of luck I'll have the key and some nice weather by the weekend and can get my first bed ripped out. I have pumpkins and sweetcorn on my kitchen windowsill that are looking forward...

Re: Got my Allotment, need some advice

I can't wait, I'm already mentally mapping out where everything will go. Still don't know why the council couldn't have offered it to me last year though.

Got my Allotment, need some advice

After a fair while on the waiting list, the council sent me a lovely letter which I received on Saturday telling me there are plots ready, and in the site just round the corner from my house, marvellous. I have to go get shown round the site on saturday and pick a plot, it would seem there are a few...
