Re: Colwick Cheese How?

Sorry Al, been away from the PC for a bit. My cheese took about four days to separate and I put a squirt of fresh lemon juice in there to make absolutely sure. After being hung on the washing line in a clean white handkerchief for a couple of hours, pressed hard to remove the water, seasoned and pac...

Re: Colwick Cheese How?

Is this different to "cottage cheese" then? I have never heard it before - i suspect it is a quintessentially British thing, am i right? It is native to the Colwick area of Nottinghamshire (which is close to where I live) where the locals used to make their own soft cheese weekly but the ...

Colwick Cheese How?

Hi Folks We used to make Colwick Cheese at school (in the 70s) and I have recently been pining for some again. The problem is that I can't remember exactly how it is made, I remember that full-fat milk was poured into a ceramic jug and lemon juice and salt came into it somewhere but apart from that ...

Re: where to start with fisihng?

For freshwater fish please check with the fishery what you are allowed to take. There has been a spate of eastern europeans taking carp that they regard as fair game but the fishery owner has paid several hundred pounds in order to have swim about tempting foolish anglers. Trout fisheries generally ...

Re: Cocktails

A classic martini for me lots of gin, a whiff of dry vermouth fumes and a dash of bitters (orange or angostura).

When I'm feeling less civilised I like an old fashioned shandy made from stout and ginger beer.

Re: What have you changed lately?

Yes I checked out toxoplasmosis when I was told about this method of cat convenience. I was assured that as long as the solids go into ground that is not used for growing edible plants then it would be OK. Since the cat is nearly 20 she will have aquired some immunity to it anyway.

Re: What have you changed lately?

<snip> I guess if we just fish out the poo the rest can be re-composted with the added bonus of the extra nitrogen! We just dig it all into the topsoil in the fallow part of the garden (under trees and such) I don't know if there are any health implications but as we are leaving it for a year I can...

Re: What have you changed lately?

The cat now has an old washing up bowl full of dry compost instead of t***o's cat litter. It has been a painful transition (mainly for me, not the cat) and there have been some "accidents" but we now have a fully sustainable moggie-bog! :cat:

Bromptons are the best known and the only one I have ridden personally. They are OK but I would rather see trains with cycle carrying capacity

I was going to start a new thread to ask if anyone did this and if they could give me any advice. I see you are a tyke - Scarborough harbour (the outer breakwater) used to be fantastic for an hour either side of high tide, the best bait was a fresh cockle (from the fishing shop, not the seafood sta...

Cheers folks!

Green Aura - I was born in Belper and I have lived within 10 miles ever since (apart from living in Sheffield as a sudent). I tend to pine if I get too far away from the Derwent :pale:
