Re: swollen comb on chicken
Hi Ann, I would say that baby products will be fine on the chooks.... it probably is some thing like a peck that's got infected, but you can have a good look once you are treating her. If the birds comb is actually turning black, it can mean respiratory problems, so just check that the black bits ar...

Mel, have a look here.... http://www.seedaholic.com/edibles/green-manures-edibles.html#Edibles Even if you don't buy anything, at least she gives a fair bit of information about green manures - you might already have some around! I got some beautiful seeds from her this year - creeping thyme, comfre...

Re: Ants!
Oooo, I'm hearing this one!! Right in the centre of the house where the hallway meets the back room & store room, we've been getting ants from under the skirting... not even near an outside wall. I've been using Diatom, it's what I use for the chooks for mites, on the dogs for fleas, in the post...

Re: Lonely Chick :-(
I think all my ladies are just used to being confused & confuddled by the feeding lady's doings..... Our Mama Cass hen has now gotten fed up of bringing her 2 week old ducks up now, so she's decided to head back to the flock. The 2 ducks weren't amused in the slightest, so they've moved in with ...

Mrs H, whilst I like the look of Boboff's post regarding pigs... I'd have a really good read of Stoney's blog before you even begin think of it... http://stoneheadcroft.com/pigs/ It all sounds good on paper but the realities of making a decent profit do not match the paperwork, methinks. After sleep...

Hey Mrs H - oh my goodness! I'm so sorry - it sounded like you were getting really settled as well :( Any idea what his beef was with the neighbour? Not that it's importnat now anyway, if you can't feel safe there, then with the kids, you are better off out of it. One question.... do you HAVE to sta...

Re: Lonely Chick :-(
Bonnie, have you tried to pop the chick in with your bantam in the dark? If I swap any of my chicks around, I try & do it at bedtime when it's getting really dark - so by torchlight. I pop the chick in my hand, turn my hand over so the hen can't see it & just slide my hand underneath her - t...

 Nice try Zoe! The problem is that although I told & showed them how I have my tea, it NEVER turned out that way.... I pop a bag in the cup, pour the water through the bag, and maybe 2 teeny splashes of milk... don't stir... oh, never stir! Leave the bag in the cup & drink

Re: nettle fertiliser
When I do our liquid gubbins, I always pop the plantstuff into an old cloth bag - I always use old pillowcases. Then I tie it up, pop it in the bucket & then fill the bucket with water. I keep an old cane next to the bucket & give it a weekly/fortnightly dig about..... then when it's ready, ...
