Re: Bread flour question

I think that using the modern, gluten rich varieties of wheat that produce the so-much-loved-by-the-British fluffy types of bread which, as has been noted correctly, are not liked by the rest of Europe (at least traditionally - sadly that's changing) is responsible for at least some of the large num...

Re: Storm Dylan?

But yes, know the problem with buses where the doors won't close and so the bus goes nowhere. Doesn't just happen in your neck of the woods ina. You'd think they'd have found a solution for that by now, wouldn't you?! Kind of emergency bolts for windy weather - or something else mechanical r...

Storm Dylan?

Did "he" cause any damage where you are? One maybe strange sounding, but not unprecedented effect it had here: the bus I was on coming back from Aberdeen yesterday broke down... Those wonderful, modern, top-of-the-range buses they have on this service can't deal with a bit of wind. I gets under the ...

Re: Unwanted presents?!

Thanks, Flo. Yes, it's better than it has been for a few years. They've all be saying - make your indispensable, and they'll have to make it permanent... And I managed to buy a pair of boots that seem to (almost) fit on Saturday - which means I can walk a bit further without being in pain - it all h...

Re: Unwanted presents?!

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions! None of them unwanted, I assure you. Yes, it's true - this time of year is the worst, and I would probably deal with it better in summer... As for volunteering - unfortunately, can't be done. There's no food bank as such near by; there's just a collection poi...

Well - keep warm is a bit of a problem... Current temperature in my bed room (warmest place in house) has just reached 14 degree C. Hasn't been this warm for a while! (Guess why I can't grow tomatoes in my house! )

Re: Unwanted presents?!

Yeah, I know - those presents that stick about for years because you fear the person who gave it to you might visit and ask about it... But - what doctor? I haven't seen a doctor for years. Always have to think what the health centre is called where I am registered. The few times I went there (many ...

Unwanted presents?!

So, what presents did you get that you'd rather not have? In my case, people always seem to be able to think of nothing else but food, and more food. (She's fat, so she must love eating, so let's give her food. :cussing: Actually I hate eating, as it makes me even fatter... Can't they see that I hav...

Re: No Bees?

I think that's one thing we've all noticed, wherever we are: fewer bees. And we (on -ish, I mean) are all aware of what we can do and do our bit... Unlike most of my neighbours, who would find even normal lawn too untidy looking and tend to go for chuckies!

Re: Fairly simple and quick-ish recipe for curd cheese

I made some even more simple and quick curd cheese not long ago... I'd bought one of those bottles of Jersey milk (was reduced, so I couldn't resist). Half way through the bottle the contents went thick on me. I just tipped them into a cloth - and hey presto, curd cheese! And very nice it was, too. ...

Re: Just before ...

Ah yes. Hohoho.... And bah humbug. Yesterday the big bash at my place of work took place - very few people seem to go these days; fewer every year. Wouldn't dream of inflicting that on me.
