Re: Spraddle Leg in chicks
Not wanting to tempt fate - It seems to have improved with 5 days hobbling... I was all for giving it a flick on the head, but as they're technically my dad's chicks, he got the final say, and wanted to give it a chance. So we hobbled it with elastoplast, it managed to get about ok, still ate and dr...

Spraddle Leg in chicks
I have a couple of chicks (hatched friday/ sat), one of which has gone on to develop spraddle leg/ splay leg. I've hobbled her with a tiny piece of micropore tape - has anyone had any experience of this before? What do you think my chances of her recovery are?

Green house Crisis!!
Hi all... we have a little nipper in the greenhouse! Every time we plant some seeds (especially big juicy ones like runner beans!) they get dug up and nibbled... Frequently the ones that do get through then get nibbled once they've sprouted... It is soul destroying when I get in and check to find th...

Hatching Egg advice
Hi all - I've recently acquired an incubator, and have been looking at egg on Ebay and other websites, but they seem to be mostly wonderful pure breeds and so rather pricey... I'm looking for some nice healthy duel purpose or meat birds, breeding is not importent! Any ideas where I could look? Anyon...

Re: I need some urgentish chicken help!!!!
Not that I'm a huge expert, I have raised a few chicks - for what it's worth, I would go with C, but only if there is a heat source (heat lamp etc) as mum will have been keeping the babies warm... It wouldn't do them any harm to be kept inside I wouldn't have thought, at that age anyway!

Surrey..
Top 3:
Swiss Chard - it just kept coming!
Beetroot - although they were somewhat on the small side, that how I like them!
Black currents
Worst:
Marrows - fruits rotted on the plants, very poor yeild
Swede - never came to much
Radish - not terrible but bolted very quickly

Re: Lentils and Chickpeas?
I was planning to do the same with shop bought borlotti beans this year... I often sprout them - has anyone got further and actually produced a crop of lentils/chickpeas/beans? My mum was telling me that the plants may not produce any fruit....

Hens Eating Eggs
On a previous thread I mentioned that when we introduced some new hens, two of them retreated to the nest box and started to live in there eating eggs for nutrients and moisture, we only noticed it was the same ones in there each morning when they started looking rather worse for wear (very pale com...

Re: Musty Wine!
Ah thanks guys,
We're really strict about steralising, we usually use milton baby stuff, but it could well be more to do with the oxidation while we're racking off... will try again and see if it helps matters!

Re: New Hens Settling with Old Hens Adjustments.
We've had all this recently, generally they all settled in really quickly - until we noticed that the two often lurking in the nest box were the same two, and were almost living in there, eating the eggs for nutrients and water! We went down the 'cruel to be kind' route, and kicked them out, and aft...

Musty Wine!
Hi all, We're having home-brew trials! We've made home made wine on and off for years, and always end up going off of it because it almost always ends up with a musty taste - Sometimes this is our fault for not racking it off quickly enough (ie months later) but it does also happen even when we foll...
