Re: Travellers...advice needed

That sounds really exciting and I'm soooo jealous!! I taught english in Shanghai for six months a few years ago and I really enjoyed it. Definitely agree about the clothes though - very difficult to buy. Although if you try the department stores (rather than the markets) then they normally have bigg...

Holistic Beauty Book by Star Khechara

I got this book from the library initially but I liked it so much that I bought a copy  . It has loads of nice recipes which are easy to make. I've made some nice lavender face cream and some bath melts (like the expensive ones you buy in the shops!). Also the gardeners hand scrub is great a...

Re: Yoghurt making advice

Good luck Seraphim! Hope the yoghurt making works. I make it in roughly the same way as everyone has already said and put it in the airing cupboard overnight, wrapped in the winter duvet. seems to work a treat and tastes lovely with my morning muesli  . I don't use milk powder in it though, see...

that looks really good! don't need anything myself but I'll bear it in mind. Some nice, interesting varieties too - not your bog standard ones in the garden centre.

Re: Strawberry-eating mice

And not all cats are any use for above ground mice either!
I have to agree, some cats are mouse-catchers and some are just wimps! Mouse traps have worked for me (albeit in the house) and strangely they didn't like peanut butter or chocolate, only plain flour :?

Re: Bugs on Blackcurrants

Thanks for the suggestion of rhubarb leaf tea, I hadn't even thought of that and the rhubarb is growing right next to it  Both my red and black currants have that red blistering curling thing on the leaves practically as soon as they open. It doesn't seem to check the plant's growth in any way...

Bugs on Blackcurrants

My blackcurrant bushes aren't looking very happy at the moment - they have red spots on their leaves and the leaves are curling up. When you look underneath there's lots of little bugs in each red spot. From my fruit book I think it is 'blackcurrant leaf curling midge', although it doesn't mention a...

Re: Dandelion wine

I was just wondering what to do with all the dandelions on the allotment and that sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the recipe, sounds easy enough too. Does it taste nice though? Made some dandelion syrup today (recipe from the SSish Bible!), haven't tried it yet but it's cooling now and I'll bot...

Ok, after reading the thread about how to add an image I think I figured it out! Here's a photo of the chopstick crochet hook along with the other chopstick and my first attempt at crochet :flower:

Chopstick Crochet!

I was off work the other day cos I got knocked off my bike by a car on the way to work :angryfire: (luckily only big bruises and nothing more serious). Not very nice though and obviously I got sent home from work. And I was bored and needed some distraction.... so I thought I'd follow Mrs F's exampl...

Re: A Farm for the Future

Watched it with hubby on Sunday night and thought it was an excellent program! I don't know much about permaculture but it's definitely something I want to look into now. The forest gardens were amazing! And I was quite surprised how 'little' land they had to be self-sufficient, only 7 acres and the...

Re: To plant now ?

Strange, my garlic has taken ages to sprout this year too. I thought I might have failed completely but in the last couple of weeks they've all started sprouting  . I brought it specially for sowing. Never tried growing it from the shop brought ones. Does it work ok? My broad beans however h...
