Re: Banish Plastic

Yogurt-making ISTR you just heat fresh milk to around 35C, bung it in an insulated container, and add some "live" plain yogurt and leave it wrapped up warm overnight. In the morning you have more yogurt. Maybe not quite as thick as the commercial stuff in my experience. Then add fruit pure...

e-bike

I have recently electrified my trusty old bike with one of these - https://www.swytchbike.com/ It is really ace. well so far anyway. Basically you swap your front wheel for their motor-wheel, add a battery basket and a pedal sensor and you're good to go. On full power the thrust is really impressive...

Red onions

Always seem to come out smaller than regular yellow onions? Why is this? What is the secret to getting big red onions?

Re: Hops

Well, they are now planted. So we shall see.... only 6 feet away from the vigorous random hops growing out of the borderlands/wastelands. Hop poles and stringing to sort too. Looking forward to this.

Re: Keeving

e.g. if you get some cider to keeve - can you blend it with more juice and get that to keeve too? or does any blending kill the process?

Re: Keeving

Well I have tried Breton and Normandy ciders (in the champagne bottles) and they have been generally rather excellent. My homebrew ciders have been.. OK but far too dry. I think the problem is that making cider and trying to keeve it out of random apples is a bit high-risk. The batches I tried to ke...

Re: For all you Linux fans ...

Been using Ubuntu for the last 12 months since the Windows 10 telemetry backfed into Windows 7. It is faster, it doesn't auto-update when it wants to and I can manage most things. It dual boots so i can revert to Windows if i need to. (usually takes 20 minutes running its enforced updates before you...

Keeving

Anyone had any success with keeving a natural cider? Last autumn I made two separate 2-gallon batches into 4 demijohns, tried the process - and only one out of four of them "keeved"... after racking off that was about 2/3rds of a gallon. The other three DJs fermented out as normal The keev...

Re: Banish Plastic

Just by the by... in Bulgaria, just about every village house has a cellar full of bottled fruit and veggies. Home preserving is a way of life, and plastic free.

Re: rats in the chicken coop

Rat Update :

I am now up to Rat 61. .22 air rifle now.

Also using bait boxes and blue-grain poison bait which I keep in the greenhouse. The buggers invaded the greenhouse and chomped their way INTO the rat-poison bucket. Smart yes. But not that smart!
