Re: Home ed forums

I would definitely be interested in a ish home edders group. I joined EO two years ago and went to a couple of the activities. It is very cliquey, and very political, I felt quite uncomfortable so didn't go to many.

Re: Does flexi-schooling work?

We chose home schooling for our son due to bullying and frustration at the school in general. We spent nearly two years trying to get things sorted with the school and found it impossible to get the teachers to understand what he was going through. When my son was home educated he was happier, he wa...

Re: Get rid of mosquito larvae in my water tank?

A very thin layer of oil on the top works, the larva breath through their tails, when they come up through the oil tail gets coated so they suffocate. Oil is also Eco friendly.

Re: What are your favorite NON-selfsufficentish books?

I have just read Lawrence Anthony's book The Elephant Whisperer.

It is about a herd of elephants he rescues from being shot and killed after the matriarch and her baby had been shot. A truly wonderful and moving book, a definite must read

Re: what are your top five films?

These are some really good "feel good" films. An Affair To Remember - Cary Grant Deborah Kerr First Wives Club - Goldie Hawn, Bette Middler, Diane Keaton, Maggie Smith My House in Umbria The Full Monty While You Were Sleeping And for very funny and a good laugh it has to be Blazing Saddles...

Blackfly problems

I have just had to pull up all my broad beans in the veg patch due to blackfly. The plants were black with them despite anything I did. I bought some more from local garden centre and only had boxes to put them in for now. They ended up in pots on the patio, with a large pot containing basil and par...

Re: Paint your house white

Well in the next couple of days, the heat is going to be comparable with quite a few Mediterranean countries, 32 tomorrow, 34-39 Thursday onwards. At the moment we have 2 fans blasting out in the bedroom and it is still too hot! Perhaps it is my fault for being a blobby! Too much blubber! We had 3 m...

Re: 101 photos of the Selfsufficientish Bible

My OH bought me the bible! I love this book, have convinced 2 other people in the bookshop to buy it too, they went and paid for copies of it as well, they were really impressed!

Now I have a queue of people wanting to "borrow" my book!

Re: 101 photos of the Selfsufficientish Bible

I have just "Amazoned" the bible to see if I could get a copy. UMM, I think I will give it a miss from there, £87.89 is just a tad steep for me! http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=The+Self-sufficientish+Bible+&x=10&y=24 I so wa...

Try and get them to do some of the clearing in return for maybe getting a big pizza for them to share afterwards. The ask them what sort of food they would grow if they were doing it. Food and teenagers always go together well!

Re: garlic and brassicas!

My bro in law, who is a whizz at the allotment game, swears by getting two cloves of garlic (crushed) mix with two table spoons of washing up or bio friendly soap, mix with water. Spray it on the plants, especially broad beans, blackfly etc hate it.

Re: Where are all the ladybirds this year?

Now the wasps bit I don't mind in the least! I hate wasps, I think God put them here as part of a warped sense of humour! Flies do the rubbish disposal, spiders and hover flies do the pest disposal, bees do the pollination, so why on earth do we need wasps, they sting for the hell of it, bees only a...

Where are all the ladybirds this year?

Has anyone noticed the distinct lack of ladybirds or their grubs this year. Usually the nettles at the bottom of the garden are covered with the grubs or larva of these bugs. So far I have seen just one ladybird and 1 grub. I have also noticed that greenfly and blackfly are in extremely prolific num...
