Thanks for all the advice guys, I am going to give this a go. The slow-cooker idea is fab, as my house is really cold...
looking foward to my yoghurt now, yum yum.

Yoghurt making advice
Hello All I have always wanted to try my hand at making yoghurt. I have seen fancy machines from the 70s at car boots etc, but I have heard that just filling a used yoghurt pot (with the dregs left in) with milk achieves the same thing? Does anyone have any advice, comments or books/websites they ca...

Re: Stig of the dumpster
I must admit I do always have a nose in skips if I see them. There just never seems to be very may around where I live... we're in the 'poor' suburb of our city, people round here don't have the money to redecorate/remodel which seems to be what leads to most skips. But still, I do keep a look out.....

Re: What have you found lately?
A button! May not sound all that amazing but it exactly matched the one that I had lost off my pyjama's.... (no, I wasn't wondering down the street in them!) A bookcase appeared in front of my house one night. A little wonky but perfectly functional. I also got a £10 note... I saw a woman walking so...

Re: Need help - craving fruit!
Thanks for the help you two, unfortunately my other half won't touch rhubarb (sob!), and I really would like something just to snack on and dig my teeth into.... I guess it's back to the imported apples unfortunately :( Though I do remember when I was a kid sitting on the back porch with a bowl of s...

Need help - craving fruit!
Hello all :) Not sure if it's a cooking or gardening thing really, so taking a stab in the dark and putting it here :) For the past year or so I have been trying to eat as much of a local and organic diet as possible. Mostly I do ok; my food is probably 90% organic and 60% local right now, still wor...

Any Ishy Bloggers out there?
I've been a blogger for many years over various different blogs, but I lately picked it back up again here: http://thegreenrainbow.blogspot.com/ I thought it would be nice if I could get a blogroll of 'ishy bloggers' going, it would be nice to have some blogs to read from people with similar interes...

Re: Earth Hour 2009
We did this last year - it was great fun, we turned off the lights all evening, cooked fajita's on a small camping stove by candlelight (beeswax candles of course.... If we're all burning petrolleum based candles and pumping out even more C02 the effect would be even worse - kind of misses the point...

Re: Wrapping paper? do you?
This might seem a bit odd, but I wrap gifts in tea towels if they are small enough, tied up with a recycled ribbon. Something useful and an extra gift! Just cheapy ones usually (19p from A*da or somesuch), but if its a special gift I go out of my way to find a patterned one that suits the recipient,...

Re: People in Bristol (or nearby) come for coffee
This sounds interesting - is it very fair from the train station or City College?
I don't have a car (don't want one either ;)) but I do pop into Bristol on the train some saturdays to attend Open University tutorials at the College.... is it somewhere I could walk/get a bus too from there?
