Re: River Cottage is back :) - Veal discussion

I'm sorry but if the fact that white veal is raised in inhumane conditions has been well known in the UK for years which is one of the reasons why the consumption of veal here is so low. I refused to eat veal as a child (some some 30 years ago) on realising this and it took me quite a crisis of cons...

Re: armpit help needed

Crystal thingy fan here too. Bought a bit one about three years ago and am still using it. Just either rub in on wet pits after showering or wet it under the tap and rub on. I have a small pump action water bottle (about 30ml) which I fill with water when camping so that I can use it in the tent to ...

Re: Slow progress

Planting marigolds with tomatoes is a standard way of keeping white / green fly off the tomatoes. Remember my grandad always had loads in his greenhouse and I've always done the same.

Re: Too many strawberries!

Wow, how many plants do you have? I've got a fair few but never get harvests like that!

Re: Crimson flowered broad beans

Hiya, my avator is of my crimson flowered broad beans. I save a few seeds every year for the next as they are sooooooo pretty. The normal ones are nice also but just a plain white with black flecks. If you are wanting to save seed you can't grow them close to where any others are growing as they wil...

Have you concreted it in or used some of those fancy ground anchors to stop it blowing away?

Have been eating St George's mushrooms picked from near OH's work for about the last couple of weeks. Truely yummy and absolutely free :thumbright:

Re: Supporting your local shops

Get milk delivered every day, it was a revelation when we started as I thought it'd be a pain but acutally much easier as we don't have to store several days worth in the fridge and if I want an extra pinta I just leave a note to the nice man who comes round when I'm still asleep. Is your milk the ...

Re: Supporting your local shops

Get most of my food from farm shops and / or a local delivery service called Northern Harvest who deliver from many local shops and businesses. It costs a bit more but is good quality and saves me getting very annoyed at having to use the dreaded supermarkets. Get milk delivered every day, it was a ...

Re: I Found These Mushrooms In My Garden

Wild mushrooms are really good - OH brings loads home and we've been eating St George mushrooms in pretty much every meal for about a week. It's difficult to tell from your photo but you need to get yourself a good book which tells you what to look out for and what to avoid. The River Cottage one is...

Re: breadmaker recommendations

Another vote for the Panasonic - not bought bread in about 3 years and although I can make it by hand I can't do that for fresh bread as I wake up in the morning. I have the one with the seed dispenser but have only used that a couple of times as you can just lob them in at the start if you want. Do...

Re: Alternatives to the Mooncup? (a women only thread i guess!)

Bought a mooncup a couple of years ago - was too scared to use it for about 6 months but when I did I was very impressed. Can't tell it's in and it's dead easy to position. Found it difficult to remove the first few times but have since found that my muscles contract (or whatever) if I'm putting wei...
