Re: Looking for real GBP to start my own brew

The plant of the above statement refers to the 'industrial' kind of plant and not the 'growing' type, I can see where it would b...

Re: Re-Capping Beer Bottles.

Agreed, the act of opening them causes the caps to be deformed and therefore they never seal right again, the screw ones might be ok but I wouldn't bother with them. If your bottles contained fizzy drinks then they should be fine for beer, even the plastic PET bottles are usable as long as you don't...

Re: Ish beer question

Bear in mind that the bitterness and hopiness will mellow over time as your beer matures!

Re: woops its a bit fizzy

If they were full of beer then they'll be fine for fizzy wine but Like MKG says your best off releasing the excess gas now and enjoy the wine in a few months.

Re: Cherry Plum & Crab Apple Overload

If you make it all into jam now you can make it into wine later with the jam instead of the sugar and fruit ;)

If you take a specific Gravity reading just before you add the yeast then another specific gravity reading when it's finished fermenting you can calculate the ABV% with a simple calculation...

(O.G - F.G) / 7.36 = ABV%

Re: wine, where do I start??

When I was in my late teens Dad used to make a thick port like wine, I now he used to double ferment, anddouble ferment with brandy added. I too fancy making a port like wine, can anyone suggest how I would go about this? Thanks, Sue Best way to do this is to keep testing your wine for sweetness wh...

Re: Wine form cordial

As long as the cordial you are using has no preservatives in then yes you can make wine out of it, if there are preservatives in there you may be able to boil them out but I prefer not to bother with them myself. My method... Make a red wine from grape juice or a basic kit. Top up with cordial and p...

Re: Pick apples now for homebrew?

If you pick them early (pulp then freeze to keep long term) they'll end up being sour but later you could add them to a super sweet batch and make a nice medium dry cider ;)
