Re: overnight apples

Mmmm... The versatility of this type of cooker! Wonderful. My grandmother used to do this with dry bread. Made wonderful sort of crackers. We loved them with lots of butter!!!! So, what are you planning to try next? I used to have an Aga and I really miss it. When I do have one (or a Rayburn) again ...

I'm a fleece-a-holic!!

What am I going to do with me?! Recently I treated myself to a lovely new spinning wheel. I already have one but this new one I have wanted for over 25 years! I lacquered it and then put it together and am thrilled. It is beautiful. Anyway. I have three large fleeces in the garage waiting to b...

Re: swine flu

I don't see any reason to worry too much about this PANICdemic. As said before, thousands die each year from 'ordinary' flu and all this seems to have been blown out of proportion. I do think people are perfectly right to be careful but some are just plain stupid! A woman came to the hospital where ...

Re: please list dairy free cheese alternatives!!!

Thanks for the recipes. Green Aura, I made the hard cheese. Yummy or what? I don't think I put in enough Agar Agar and it came out softish but that does not matter. Wonderful spread for sandwiches. I will definitely make this again, and again. I am vegetarian, not vegan, but I find the vegan and dai...

Re: How do I.......dye a new fleece? and...?

Hi, I will look in my many dyeing books to see if I can advise you on the dyeing. Actually it is a matter of preference whether you dye the wool before you spin it or after. Depends what you want to do. If you want to ply two different colours together, or blend colours in carding then you would hav...

Re: Help! How Can I tidy up by Wednesday?

Congratulations on your forthcoming third child. I know what that is like! I had three in as many years! I have one older as well (he is the one coming down tomorrow) and they are all grown up. The trouble is, the three youngest moved out and didn't take their stuff with them! Then, two moved back h...

Re: Help! How Can I tidy up by Wednesday?

Thanks for the tips Zoe. I have some breathing space now as they aren't coming down until next thursday now! Breaths a sigh of relief! My daughter wanted to see them as well but wednesday was a busy day at her work so the day was changed. Now I have a few more days to get it all done but I will have...

Re: .......use a Rayburn?!

We used to have an Aga (solid fuel) which I loved. To come down in the morning to a lovely warm kitchen was heaven. A turkey in the bottom oven overnight was so succulent, (I am vegetarian but my family raved over it) and continuous hot water in the kettle. Bread rising was so easy but don't forget ...

Help! How Can I tidy up by Wednesday?

Hi, My house is a complete tip and my eldest son has announced he is coming down for the day on wednesday! It will be lovely to see them but I have to make this place presentable. They have a new baby and a nearly three year old who will be into everything. We aren't able to see them as often...

Re: Royal Cornwall Show

Hi Pete, We didn't manage Thursday so we went to the show today. Wet!! There were so many people just dawdling about. It was very good though and I bought an Alpaca fleece to spin. John saw lots of people he knows and I nearly bought a floor steamer. Glad I didn't! The salesman was awful and ignored...
