Re: Another use for courgettes

We have a glut too. Can't seem to eat them fast enough, despite putting them in almost every meal. My favourite is OH's chocolate courgette cake. It's from a Green & Blacks recipe book but seems to work fine with really cheap supermarket chocolate. Does that mean I can count cake as one of my fi...

Re: This week we're mostly eating...

Wow, I am very impressed and I bet you are too. I am very much a beginner with the gardening but I love how addictive it is. I have said it beofre but reading what all you folks are harvesting in the North makes me right envious as we sit here in the chilly fog with my chard not growing one bit! if...

This week we're mostly eating...

I'm really please with ourselves. Last year we were two town numpties who hardly knew one end of a dibber from the other. Then we moved in to a house in a village and it had a garden with a veg path and we started to see the fun in growing things. We were planning to redecorate the house. We haven't...

Re: Chest freezer and bread maker!

The trick with the breadmaker is to cultivate the idea that its terribly technical and not really suited to the female mind...and then, with any luck, your partner will step in to show you how its done, and take on the breadmaking! Worked for me..... That's so cruel! Not that I can talk, as I've ne...

Re: J. Artichokes - advice?

Winter savoury is supposed to help reduce the side-effects. We're growing (both) for the first time this year. Now looking for recipes (especially those that include winder savoury) .

Re: Tiny potatoes

We just eat ours along with the rest. I doubt they would be viable as seed potatoes as they'd have too little 'energy' to support themselves til they got going proper.

If you have lots then potato salad sound good to me.

Re: How are your carrots?

Well, I was eating baby carrots for lunch. But the were pulled out the ground minutes earlier, and all had lush green tops. They tasted absolutely gorgeous. The rest now have room to grow a little.

If I could grow enough carrots I'd never by another one.

Re: Changing the clocks would reduce carbon emmisions

Given that it's the evening peak they are trying to tackle, then the aim ought to be to get everyone to bed as soon as possible (and let them have a lie in in the morning for good measure). So I wonder the following would help... shutting down the TV networks after 9pm Turn off all street lights at ...

Re: Anyone know of a free .PSD reader/editor

I think GIMP supports reading and editing of .psd documents.

I use GIMP on my Mac and its also on my Windows Vista laptop (it's how I drew my avatar - although that's not really selling it!). I quite like it, but it does take a little time to learn (much like photoshop).

Re: How do I avoid fungal stuff

... but your health is worth much more than growing your own. Too true, and growing my own lung full of fungus is certainly not what I was hoping for! :banghead: Sorry honey, sounds like you're going to have to keep clear of the garden, certainly until you've been well for a good while. It might be...

Re: How do I avoid fungal stuff

Thanks for the supports from everyone. I checked with the doctors again today. They do just want me to stop all activity that might put me in contact with fungal spores - like chopping wood, especially old wood, and even digging is bad. A full Hazmat suit is not really gong to be practical and would...

Re: Valve wrench

Excellent.

And more people might need one of those than they realise. According to our local plumber the main stop tap to a house (which looks just like that one little plastic one, but a bit bigger) often fails the first time it is truly needed (e.g. when water is pouring through the ceiling!)

How do I avoid fungal stuff

I've just spent a traumatic couple of weeks in Hospital (and I'm still here). Have been told what I thought was a simple chest infection was actually a serious fungal infection that within the two days before they put me on the table had filled and then collapsed one lung. I've just spoken the senio...
