Re: What festival are you going to this year?

Hoping to go to Knockengorroch in May and maybe Doune the Rabbit Hole for the Sunday cos 3 Daft Monkeys are playing, yay!

We gave up with the tent a couple of years ago after nearly getting flooded out when the river rose so high it was at the door! Got ourselves a van to use, love it!

Re: wildflower lawn ?

Not able to offer any advice I'm afraid but love the idea! My front lawn is north facing so this could be ideal for me too!

Re: Today I almost....

We almost got organised to go see the Levellers at their next Brixton gig in May, not going to happen :-(

Today I went for a walk around our local woodland paths with my Guides. It was great, we even managed to get them interested in the nature around them. A good day!

Re: living on a tight budget

I made a shopping list template, tick the boxes of the things we want and don't stray.

Well that's the theory anyway! Has worked in keeping us on task and I do look to see what we need before we go so that cuts down the thinking-while shopping.

Good luck!

Re: What are we all having for dinner?

We had veggie chilli with quorn and loads of veggies.

Also did a pot of carrot and coriander soup at lunch time which was lovely. Not bad for the first time I've ever made it!

Re: Growth of raised beds

Perfectly timed thread! Thanks!

Plan to start re-organising our wee back garden at the weekend (unless it's under a foot of snow).

Dismantling the shed to give us more space and get organised with raised beds to minimise the time and, hopefully, maximise our harvest.

Re: freecycle

I get really frustrated with my local one, more wanted than offered ads! rarely a thank-you or a received but there is an automated "now taken" message you can send. People frequently ask for something because they "desperately need it" when asking for TV's, tumble driers, dish w...

Re: Central heating?

Thanks Mike! Think the blockage is ice! Have located burst pipe ourselves, despite the engineer telling us that it wasn't burst etc etc. It is and exactly where I thought it may be (only because it's where the noise came from) Now have no heating till at least Sunday, emergency plumber called (via h...

Re: Central heating?

Thanks (again)

Pipe has now burst before we could do anything to try and make it better.

Engineer/plumber called, hoping for first call tomorrow. Crossing everything.

Off to wrap up warm and dream of wood burners!

Re: Central heating?

I find it difficult to believe that the pipes to one radiator would freeze if all the others are working. Are you sure that it is not a coincidental problem, such as an air lock in that radiator or a dodgy valve. If it is really only one radiator that stops working due to the pipes freezing, it wou...

Re: Central heating?

Thanks! Don't have a header tank, Odsox, or a water tank for that matter! Got a new condensing boiler installed 3 years back. Existing pipes/radiators were deemed sufficient enough for the system. Not sure Riff-Raff, would have to lift the carpet which means moving loads of furniture (not to mention...

Central heating?

How do I work out what kind of pipe system my central heating has? The radiator in our front room stops working when the temperature gets below about -5. The room is North facing. We know the pipe is freezing somewhere under the floor but as the pipework was done before we moved in I don't know if t...
