Re: Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

How much are you paying for firewood?

My supplier has a flat back LWB tipper transit and charges £125 a load for seasoned hardwood logs but I have just read a web page that stated a similar load shouldn't cost more than £40/50. I'm not sure how old the info on the web site was tho'.

I'd be very grateful for any info

Re: Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

I'm old enough to remember the new ice age being predicted. As a young man the media had me terrified of the hole in the ozone layer that was gonna burn us all. Mobile phone signals where frying ya brain, millenium bugs etc etc. Global warming is now climate change and Tidal waves have been renamed ...

Re: Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

Why are we expected to believe in and trust scientists about climate change when they cant forecast tomorrows weather and get it right?

Re: DIY heatsink for use with earth/clay oven

I looked into this recently and was told that the Building Regulations require various safety measures including installation by approved installers who are unlikely to go along with improvised solutions. I was thinking of microbore copper pipe wrapped around the outside of the steel flue with a pum...

Flue heaters

I have heard that a water heater can be installed in the steel fluepipe from a stove but cant find a manufacturer. If anyone else has heard of these or knows where I can learn more I'd be very grateful for some pointers

Re: Recession??

I am (was) in the construction industry which is always first to suffer and last to recover so I heard alarms bells when they were telling us "not to worry" and "it will only be a little itty bitty reccession" etc etc. We were lucky enough to get an offer for our house in Newcast...

It just got better

Behind my house is a huge old airfield that is now used for livestock. It's ideal for the farmers because the old roads and runways mean they have good access to the animals during winter and the lambing season. I was out walking the doggies and noticed that where the feeder had been there was a mas...

Re: Raised Bed construction materials ?

I have raised beds (made from timber) because the soil below is mainly clay and very slow draining. I placed the soil on top of hardcore and gravel in the beds so they would drain better. Most of the timber and drainage material was recycled from the house renovation, cant wait for spring!

Re: Chopping wood

I only use my chanisaw on the ground and take my time cutting. I wear steel toecaps and eye protection. For splitting I have a log maul which is like an axe but wider and splits them effortlessly. Again, I take my time and never rush the job

Re: The advantages of Global Warming to veggie and fruit growing

What is this warming they speak of? I broke up for the hols on 18 Dec and have been waiting for the compost heap and ground to thaw out so I can get digging it in. Minus 10 and more snow predicted for tonight with another severe weather warning and it's forecast to stay frozen well into next week, T...
