Some advice for a newbie please

Hello I am moving to Italy in a month (from the UK) and where they have had to lay my foundations, they seem to have removed a lot of the top soil from the area in the front (where i was planning to grow my veggies) Will this now make it really hard to grow anything on this soil or what could I do t...

Re: Hi, anyone in Marche, Italy?

Hi Mrs F, I haven't tried to do anything on my land yet as I have only visited it a few times during the purchasing process. Haven't moved out there, although my planning permission is now through and the cabin should (famous last words) only take 30days to build. I am not holding my breath on that ...

Re: Hi, anyone in Marche, Italy?

Hello I am new here too. I am moving to Abruzzo hopefully at the end of March (waiting for my cabin to be built). I will be moving alone (with my dogs) and doing a similar thing to you, hoping to downscale a lot and grow most of my own food. Where abouts in Marche are you? I will be nea...

Hi MW,

I like the look of that little washing machine, how wet are the clothes when they come out?

Thanks

Re: Does anyone here wash all their clothes by hand?

I only arrived to help after the main bales were up...my job was lots and lots and lots of earthen plastering! Spent most days making plaster by hand and then applying it. I would love a straw bale house, very cool in summer..warm in winter...but they are extremely labour intensive so would take me ...

Re: Does anyone here wash all their clothes by hand?

Thank you both. The sink is stone and has a washboard built in.. My bathroom is only 1.5 m by 2 m so definitely not going to be a bath tub..although I could hang clothes on the porch until they have stopped dripping and then hang them by the wood burner? Or look into getting a spin dry...

Does anyone here wash all their clothes by hand?

Hello, I am moving to Italy in a few months time and will be having an outside stone sink to do all my washing in. I don't think I will have any problems getting clothes dry in the summer but not sure about winter... Does anyone else do all their clothes washing by hand? Do you have a spin...

Re: Off to start a new life in rural Italy..

Thank you! I don't know too much about the resources available, I believe that it is a very clay soil and as such can go like concrete when it dries out. But, I have also been told that a lot of things seem to flourish there despite the soil. I plan to plant lots of fruit trees too and maybe some wa...

Re: Off to start a new life in rural Italy..

Hello Thanks for the welcome. Why don't you want to be connected to electricity? Life will be extremely tough without leccy. Personally I would have leccy but invest in PV panels which with your limited demand should keep you going for most of the year. If you are going to have a fridge...

Off to start a new life in rural Italy..

Hello, I have just bought 2.5 acres of land 3000ft up a mountain in Italy and will soon be going to move there with my German Shepherd. I am having a little cabin built and hope to grow most of my own food and keep chickens.. I have no clue what I am doing really ( ) so all and...
