Flowers in December?

Hello I'm getting married in December :happy7: , and in self-sufficientish style we'd like to grow the flowers ourselves. Having only grown veg in the past, and getting married at the start of December, I'm not sure how possible this is though! I have access to a greehouse, and a sunny windowsill, b...

rotting chicken manure

Does anybody know how long chicken poo should be rotted for before it can be dug into soil? I have filled a plastic bag with the stuff, and aim to dig it into the soil in a greenhouse I have inherited for next summer. If I was to dig it in now, would it be good to grow things in next year??

I did a 'stealthy' morning today, and made my breakfast in semi-darkness with the blinds shut. Hardly a noise :) The shower got a few clucks, but not much of the previous 'screaming', so I guess the light is the main culprit. This only works with the house door open though, or they make plenty of no...

noisy chickens?

Are anybody else's chickens very noisy? Mine make huge amounts of noise early in the morning, a few hours before it gets light. They get a bit quieter when I let them out of the house, but still could not be considered quiet. I'm getting worried the neighbours are going to start complaining (i think...

Soap!

I'm in the middle of making soap, and have got a bit stuck! I'm following mel's recipe, and added the 4 1/2oz sodium hydroxide (crystals) to 13oz water (by weight), expecting it to slowly warm to the required 55 degress. What it actually did was shoot over 60 in a few seconds and explode my thermome...

I like the idea of growing in old milk bottles - always seem to have enough of them. I can understand most of what you are suggesting from the website, but what is the flap/lid for? Is it just to avoid throwing it out, or does it serve a purpose. Now, if you could figure out a way to make it self-wa...

Jalepeno

Hello

It's the one thing I wasn't expecting a glut of, but i seem to have too many jalepeno peppers :) The plants are starting to look the worse for wear, but I have about 20 peppers to use up. Does anybody know if these can be simply frozen, or have any good recipe ideas they can be used in?

Thanks for the advice - i'm withholding the treats today :) My only problem at the minute is they've decided to stop laying. I have a similar issue, in that they haven't started laying yet! We were told they'd start in a week or 2, and it's been nearly 4 (bought p.o.l). Starting to think thye're dud...

It's looking fairly clear at the moment. There was a lot of sediment before the racking though

racking issue?

Hello I've just racked my first batch of parsnip wine as it's been going for 3 months now :). The demi-john is about 4/5 full, which means there is an air gap above the wine - will this ccntact with air make the wine go off? I guess that the carbon dioxide produced by fermentation would have protect...

Hello Have had the chickens for a couple of weeks now, and all is going pretty well. They're always entertaining, and have got quite sociable. They seem to have stopped enjoying their layers pellets though, although they get very excited by sprinklings of grain and bundles of salad burnet. I'm worri...
