Unfortunately they aren't really worth eating...too soggy and tasteless. Oak Boletes are much bigger and firmer - and tastier - and rarer.alec-ish wrote: p.s im hungry!

Re: Useless bloody poodle
'Twas exercise time for said poodle. I have one of those extension thingies so that I can chuck a tennis ball a long way with little effort. Anyway, the ball sailed out over the lawn into the orchard, bounced twice and came to rest. I looked a little more carefully, and I noticed that the ball was ...

Then you need a better book! "Mushrooms" by Roger Phillips is the best, currently on special offer from Amazon.alec-ish wrote:oh yes looks very much like 'the prince' it isnt in either of my books!

Re: mushrrom help
maybe brown wood mushroom or shaggy parasol? Definately not a shaggy parasol - they are much more shaggy and have white gills. I don't know which species "brown wood mushroom" refers to - I know wood mushrooms, scaly wood mushrooms and blushing wood mushrooms but I think this is their cou...

Loobyloo,
I've only just noticed that you posted a second picture, showing the cap in profile. This is not a liberty cap. It is a Paneolus, probably acuminatus. Not edible.

Re: We try will ID your mushrooms here
I found several of these mushroooms clustered together in a conifer/pine forest, sandy soil. I tried collecting the spore deposit, but I feel I did something wrong??? After leaving the cap under a glass, half of it on white paper, half of it on black, I had collected no spores after 3 hours. Checki...

I'd bury them in the compost heap if I were you. They won't harm the invertebrates.Rosendula wrote:Thanks Geoff. I haven't noticed any growing back this year. If they do, I'll destroy them so my little girl doesn't get hold of them.

Re: mushroom i.d. anyone?
Anygood in a bolognese do we think? or certain death? Err...it's not the best picture, but there's a good chance that these are the ones which make reality go a bit strange. It's hard to be certain without a clear shot of the cap, but if I had to guess then I'd say this is a liberty cap. Hmmmm how ...

Re: Is there a answer to this?
My friend sent me this over MSN and it's completely baffled me. 'If it's zero degrees outside today and it's supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?' Is there actually a answer? Or is it just something to make me think? There's no answer. Temperature is actually...

Re: We try will ID your mushrooms here
This is the 2nd lot of mushrooms found. I unfortuantly have less detailed info about this lot but will do my best. Found in conifer wood, sandy soil, growing near logs but not on, around 7 - 10 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height off ground. Colours as seen in pictures. Did not take a spore deposite...

Hello
Hi... Found your mushroom forum and thought I might offer some help. I'm currently unemployed and have spent most of the autumn foraging for fungi....and the occasional roadkill deer or two. Been doing it on and off for about twenty years now, but I'm taking it a bit more seriously this year. :) Geoff

Re: anyone know these mushrooms
thanks plotter. they didnt look edible to me. but nice to know there strain. cheers. see you later...jim These are almost certainly Amanita rubescens , otherwise known as "The Blusher". This Amanita is edible (and good when younger than these ones), but only edible after first boiling and...
