Re: Hide wires?

I assume you are talking electrical wires? I have done quite a bit of electrical wiring, mostly in a factory setting over 30 years with my different jobs, but I've also done some house wiring too. It would be real difficult to give advice for this, without being there to inspect the layout of the ho...

Re: Ginger: Looking for advice

well, I haven't read of much other success in my area without a green house, I have had a hard time with plants indoors without a grow light...my windows are in poor locations to take advantage of the natural light...I gotta re-arrange my house layout I guess. anyway, I gave the extra roots to my ve...

Ginger: Looking for advice

I'm not sure if my Minnesota climate is suitable for growing Ginger? There was a vendor at the local farmers market that was selling it, She said they grow it in a Hoop house (portable green house), but she wouldn't share and details on the "HOW". Anyone grow Ginger in a short season clima...

Re: 2009 Goozbeit (Beet wine with Gooseberries)

I thought I'd bump this recipe thread, as I haven't been around for about 4 years.
I'm quite proud of it, and not to brag too much, but Andy found that it was good enough to put in his book, "Booze for free".

Anyone else enjoy a good Beet wine ?
what were your experiences with it?

Re: Tomato beer

Just a quick update here, my tomato beer recipe "Taxi" is very reminiscent to a Belgian Gueuze, if you are familiar with Beer styles?

Gueuze has a dry, cider-like, musty, sour, acetic acid, lactic acid taste.

Re: Greetings from Minnesota USA

Hello again, I haven't logged in here for about 4 years. I seen a "memory" pop up on my facebook newsfeed from 2010 and I mention this wonderful forum. I thought to myself ...HEY, I gotta get back there. Updates: I never did get to the hobby farm, I'm still in town and fairly successfull i...

Re: Re-introducing myself

Hi Kathy, I recently logged in here for the first time in 4 years, I kind of forgot about this place. I'm glad to see you're still here, you've given me plenty of good advice in the past. Good Luck in your new endeavors, I can only assume they'll be challenging...but hopefully be delightful as well....

Re: Beer from hops

You will need a trellis or a fence or something for it to grow on. If you choose a variety that is hardy, one plant will give a home brewer enough to brew with all year long. I have a cascade plant, it grows 20+ feet tall on my 20+ foot trellis. it produces about 20 lbs of hops each year...that drie...

Well, I'm starting the process to do this again, in about 2 months. Just think, if I wasn't such a packrat, I wouldn't have to do this nearly every year.

Re: New to apple trees

A big secret everyone forgets when buying trees to plant...is to research which varieties are fairly trouble free, insect and disease wise. Some trees like the harrelson produces apples with almost no work or chemicals. But some varieties that may be the tastiest and have nice thin skin, are very su...
