Free food for dinner tonight!

No sorry, I haven't been shooting pigeons, fishing or even foraging..............not for a while anyway.

I came home from work to find a bag of tomatoes and a cucumber on my doorstep - I made a quiche that'll keep us going for a few days.

Re: Anyone else jam making at the moment?

Up to my armpits in damsons, made damson jelly - i added lots of sugar as they're bitter, damson chutney and damson jam, which is good with game or poultry or even roast lamb. I've made jars and jars of blackberry and crab apple jelly; which is best on bread and butter

I've been busyish being selfsufficientish

I've been on holiday for the past few weeks and have had fun using up recycled materials and making jams and chutneys. I don't have much money but I've made do with either what I've found, got for free or at very little cost.

Re: Strawberry Question

some years they fruit, some years they don't. In this area, wild strawberries are prolific, in other areas there'll be none. In other years when we have none, there are tonnes in the next town!
