Re: Antibiotics and probiotics

I'm not qualified in any way on this but agree with pumpkin. I would take the antibiotics first if it was me. The doctor will have a good reason to prescribe them so I don't think its a good idea to take anything that might affect their work. Also as antibiotics are there to kill bacteria it seems l...

Re: Blackout

Agree with what you both say. I didn't really mind the film style although it did seem unlikely that at the start of the power cut all the people filming seemed to have a full battery. When whatever goes wrong there will always be people who were just about to re-charge, or go to the cashpoint, or r...

Re: What to do with new plug plants

They are outdoor plants so I don't think they would be very happy indoors. They can stand frost although being small will be a bit delicate so I should put them somewhere sheltered, although not in the dark and keep an eye out for slugs and snails. Oh and I'd put them in small flowerpots so the root...

Re: Christmas Potatoes

These look amazing Odsox. I'm really surprised they do so well in the heat of an August polytunnel. How much and often do you water them?

Re: Blackout

digger I think it's good to remember this was a drama and they had to build up the human conflict to keep people watching. If we think about real events more people help their neighbour that rob and shoot them. I remember seeing a sign outside someones house in America, after a hurricane I think, th...

Re: Rotorvating timings

I've never used a rotivator but wouldn't recommend one for grassland. It will just chop up all the roots into more roots, which will grow. I'd look into the possibility of removing the turf, or cutting the grass then covering beds with mulch and planting into it. Growing potatoes through cardboard w...

Re: Blackout

Yes I had that thought about how much worse it would have been in winter. I wouldn't have posted comments before you watch but as you've already read in other forums... The traffic chaos seemed quite reasonable to me. Although drivers usually manage faulty traffic lights themselves I don't think thi...

Blackout

Just watched this drama I recorded on Channel 4.

Anyone see? Really good about a long term power cut over the whole of Britain.

Re: Mulching season?

So many variables  If you had a light shower on a thick mulch little rain would reach the soil. Or a heavy shower on a light mulch might be beneficial as the worms could come up for the moisture and take the goodness back down with them. I've put fresh grass cuttings down and seen them d...

Re: Mulching season?

I'm not really sure why mulching is beneficial now. Yes the ground is warm but it is also very dry - well it is here. Wouldn't a thick mulch now prevent the rain from getting to the soil? And then the frosts when they come. I suppose it depends on when and where you want to mulch. Is it to go around...

True but I think this one has a house hidden in it. Hardly fair if he brings the whole block down.
