Re: Hand Sewing Patchwork
Most American patchwork is not applique. In fact, applique is not considered patchwork by most American quilters. Only in applique do American quilters use a backer. We don't reject those that do use a backer, we just have to ask silly questions about bits of paper left in seams.

Re: Hand Sewing Patchwork
Umm...at risk of sounding a little unkind. I was taught that the paper bit was a pattern, not to be sewn in; therefore, no little paper bits. I would presume that your patch work is like mine so you need many of the same shape. It's silly ato make a paper pattern for each shape.

So glad they are doing better. I know the feeling about mothers.
Don't blame yourself, if it hadn't been so long and you trying so much, the doctor probably wouldn't have seen it as more than diaper rash either. Then no swabs, no creams, no antibiotics, etc.

Re: Changing the clocks would reduce carbon emmisions
As an American subject to the vaguaries of Daylight Savings Time, it really doesn't cause all the fuss that some might think. Plus you get a free 'sleep-in' day once a year. I have no clue about savings, but presume that it does work as it has been continued intermittently since WWII. There w...

Is there anyone higher up the food chain than this man? If so, I would include a copy of the response in a communication with them. It might not get you anything, but fuel leaks in an engine can kill someone. They need to be aware of the problem before there is a serious accident.

Re: Bringing out the inner guard dog!
Bark. You are the pack leader, I hope. When the pack leader barks, everyone barks. When you scream or yell, that is translated as a bark by your dogs. That's why if you want a dog to stop barking you use a physical signal, like a tap on the side, to get their attention and quiet them. To get them to...

My little premie (he's taller than me now!) had the same problem from birth and still does. I picked up some witch hazel water and daubed that on with cotton balls when he was small (dr reccomended). Now he uses the wipes that you can get at the pharmacy. I think the wipes are actualy for hemmoroids...

I thought I was the only person that cleaned around spiders! I tell people I'm protecting the family form West Nile Virus and malaria by letting the spiders stay.

Probably just a hormone surge as she reached maturity, but check her udder and belly around for lumps. The milk is fine as long as she is healthy. If you have noticed her getting fatigued or off her feed, there may be something you can't feel. But ususally it is just a hormone surge. Her milk probab...

You need to get a letter out ASAP. But read the rest first. Remain respectful in your letter, but be firm. Outline the list of problems again, and that they were reported along the way. Include information about how the man just said thanks. Be certain to include that your travel plans made it impos...

Congrats! Even after 4 the thought is still excitng and a little scary. I never understood women feeling like failures for having a section or not breast feeding. Of course, I never had a section and I breastfed almost nonstop for nine years, but I always knew that sections happen and boobs don't al...

Re: Identity Crisis
Have you considered a chastity belt? Neither of my girls are spayed, but I haven't had any trouble when they come into season. I was told to have my husband and sons pee around their outside pen to keep male dogs away. It has worked for years. But we were out of town last week when the Blue He...

Have I told you about my goat who is infatuated with the cow? Or my female blue-heeler that carries kittens in her mouth and protects them from all harm, including the care of their mother? (One of the most vicious dog breeds, yeah right.) She does the same with the goslings and duckilings every spr...

Re: Hand Sewing Patchwork
It is important to have the same size pieces, but you also need to practice also having a standard seam width. A plain path work quilt is great for that because in more intricate patterns an eighth of an inch can cause problems.
