Re: Rabbit Babies death
I'm sorry but it isn't harsh but the only way to keep the good mothers. 20yrs ago I was a smaller breeder of Angoras, with 80 does and the babies. A doe who kills her first babies will do it again and again. They are missing the "mothering" trait, and if you keep them it will become worse,...

Kill the does, bad mothers won't change into good ones.

I just watched an episode of WarTime Farm, and there was said, you'll need at least 6 sugar beet roots for one Kilo of pure sugar.

One magic square - Lolo Houbein
Despite the title this book isn't just a follower of SquareFootGardening but much more better. It encourages the beginner to start with only one squaremeter (easy to clear up) and about 20something plans of what to seed/plant in there. And then add the next square, and maybe another one, and so on.....

Re: Fed up of being a virus magnet
Do you ever consider a house dust mite allergy, when you have a never-ending cold? The last two months I was suffering from a bad sinusitis - I thought/my GP confirmed it and gave me lots of AB, but it is a dust mite allergy. I got a new prescription and changed all the things in my bedroom (encasin...

Unfortunately there are only very few cows living that way. Most of them got their lives from insemination, with thousands of siblings(?), sired from the same bull. Most of them don't even see green grass - standing all day long in feed lots and getting soy and maize. And soy and corn are very oil-c...

Re: How a Potato Plant Grows.
There are two tricks for potatoes in a tower: the temperature during chitting has to be low (but at least 200 lux of light!), around 5-8°C, to produce lots of medium potatoes instead of only few oversized, and the main shoot must be broken before planting them - this supports the building of side sh...

In Italy and many other other places in Europe laws such as these are generally seen as guidelines - feeding chickens kitchen scraps, killing and butchering your own animals on site and selling your excess to neighbours, friends and wholesalers is the norm. If a law makes no sense then everyone ign...

@all: Thank you for the warm reception! @spider8: no, I'm a lazy beekeeper, the bees are doing all the work - I prefer sitting in front of the hives and watching them. @Jandra: yes, for living in the flatlands (26m) it was a terrifying amount of snow, and the extreme low temperatures crack...

Another newbee ;-)
Hi, I'm Marianne, located northwest of Hannover, Germany. I'm keeping some beehives and have a small plot for herbs and veggies but always struggling with slugs and snails (don't want to poison them because I have also some hedgehogs around). For this year I'm considering a container garden in my fr...
