Re: Blackcurrants and gooseberries, oh my

I'm embarrassed to admit it's all still sitting in demijohns waiting for me to find the time/energy/motivation to bottle. But the wee tastes I had while racking were quite promising :) Just hope I haven't ruined it by leaving for so long. I have 2 gallons of gooseberry and 3 of blackcurrant - 2 from...

Re: Blackcurrants and gooseberries, oh my

Oh yeah, that's in there too. Sorry, seems like I missed out half the ingredients I used in my initial post

Wonderful might be a bit ambitious this time round Ina, I'll settle for drinkable

Thanks for the replies.

Re: Blackcurrants and gooseberries, oh my

Thanks GreenAura. Yeast nutrient, yes, I forgot to mention that but it's in there :) I was going on the basis of between 3-4 pounds of fruit per gallon as that's what I used for bramble wine last year, but I guess all fruits are not equal... Right, I'm off to make some tea and squeeze some lemons.

Blackcurrants and gooseberries, oh my

Stupid question time again. I was given a couple of buckets of fruit - about 6 1/2 pounds of blackcurrants and about 7 1/2 pounds of gooseberries. I've put them into fermenting buckets with sugar, water and yeast (2 bags of sugar and 7 litres of water, aiming at 2 gallons of wine from each). Stupid ...

Re: Wine from supermarket juice?

Well, I won't be buying more juice anytime soon, I've got plenty of other stuff to be going on with :)

You're right, there do seem to be loads of demijohns out there going free/cheap. Unfortunately none of them are anywhere near me... oh well. I'll just have to improvise :)

Re: Wine from supermarket juice?

Thanks. I'll cross grape juice off the list then! If this turns out to be a failed experiment, it's only cost me a couple of quid. Sod's law sounds about right  I do have a smaller bucket which I think should just about hold the liquid, once the fruit is removed - at least long en...

Re: Wine from supermarket juice?

Update: I finally got around to doing something with this, decided to dilute it 50/50 so 4 litres juice/4 litres water (with another litre of juice available to top up with), 1.5kg-ish sugar, some tea and some lemon juice, and now have 2 demijohns bubbling away merrily. One more merrily than the oth...

Re: Wine from supermarket juice?

Aye, I plan to do bramble when the time comes but in the meantime I just thought cheap juice + empty demijohn = why not? Got to be worth a try :D

Re: Wine from supermarket juice?

Thanks Marc. Diluted it is, then! Which means I have enough to try different concentrations and see which I like best... :)

Wine from supermarket juice?

Delurking to ask a stupid question... Local supermarket was selling apple juice at a bargain price, so I thought I could make some apple wine without all that tedious chopping and promply bought 5 litres of the stuff (in my head: 1 gallon + some for topping up as necessary). It now occurs to me that...
