Re-use bamboo blinds ?

Just cleaned the shed out today and found the bamboo blinds I was storing have got mouldy n damp. I decided I would cut the solid bamboo bits off the ends to use for pea frames but then I realised a lot of the thin slats are in good nick. But what can I use them for ? They're matchstick thin and a b...

Use the soil from the pond I dug ?

Well, my OH dug the hole, not me ! We're making a wildlife pond in the garden, nothing big or fancy, but I now have a HUGE pile of soil from the hole my OH dug. What the hell can I use this soil for ? I have no transport to take it anywhere and there must be something I can do with it, surely ? Ther...

Fence panels ?

There must be loads of them laid about in peoples gardens after the high winds we've had ! I've only got 2. But I'm stumped as to what to do with them. I thought of using the bits to make planters, would have to be quite small as I don't think they would be very strong. But can anyone else think of ...

Re: Is my cat odd?

My old cat Toby who went to the rainbow bridge last week used to eat carrier bag handles. Then proceed to walk around backwards vomiting them back up. Our young cat will sit in the sink for hours waiting for the tap to drip. He also throws himself at the Walls to catch the reflections off the crysta...

Re: freecycle

Our freegle is quite a busy one. I've given away a DVD player, a bed, dining table n chairs, a freeview box and wood pallets. Just got my first item off it last night- a highsleeper bed for my little boy. I'm chuffed to bits with it and am going to send an email of thanks today. There are sometimes ...

best prices / delivery bokashi bran ?

I need to buy some bokashi bran, however at the minute I am very short of money. Well, I'm always short of money, just more so now. :( So, I haven't got much to spend, but my bran is almost all gone. I know it's better to buy in bulk but I really can't afford it at the minute. I've been googling dif...

flower id please

I found this in my garden, in the house we've just moved into. The flower petals fell off before I thought about getting a pic to put on here  The petals were pale pink and it looked a little bit like a carnation. I've since noted them poking out of pavement cracks here and there in nearby str...

Re: Overcoming stupid phobia

It's not a stupid phobia, I think you have done brilliantly. Phobias of any kind are bloody awful. They can be debilitating and the fact that you managed to go out and pick the very thing that has caused you so much trouble is a reason for celebrating. Well done !!

Re: 1st ladybird

Hardly any here in my bit of Devon (sob). Have had to resort to icky squishing of the greens with a thumbnail. Did anyone else used to believe that those yellow ones were poisonous? Just my school then?! I take great delight in squashing the little sods !  and i also used to think they were poison...

1st ladybird

I've just seen my first ladybird of the year. It's yellow with black spots. I can't ever remember them being so sparse. Is it the same everywhere ?

Re: Guess what I found in my garden?

Only been in this house for a week, just started on the garden at the weekend. Found a few bricks, some huge old bones that a dog must have buried years ago and loads of woodlice. Yuk yuk yuk I hate the things.  as ive been clearing the jungley bits ive unearthed hoardes of them.

Re: Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)

Now down to just 2 plants, still only about 5" high.  ive been growing them for months, they don't seem to have grown for ages now. Do they usually take such a long time ? Or am I flogging a dead horse ?

Re: Will my pumpkins survive ?

Been in the new place for a day, boxes n bags everywhere, can't move lol. Soon as I get the house put straight I can start on the garden, can't wait ! So all the plants are still in pots but here's pics of a couple of pumpkin plants. They seem to be doing ok so far, must get them in the ground soon....
