Re: raising chickens for meat

Thanks! I was thinking of crossing indian game with labresse, and guessed from what i've read that it would take 5-6 months to get a decent weight. That's OK with me. I think I'd rather avoid the white zombie chickens that grow to beachball size within 6 weeks. Will give it a try with maybe 10-15 bi...

raising chickens for meat

I love eating chicken but the guilt of buying lidl chiken is getting too much. So I've been thinking of rearing some myself. I was thinking of buying a set of ebay eggs and hatching them, see how that goes in terms of how much they need feeding and how fast they put on weight. Then keeping a cockere...

Re: cream legbars with white-green ears?

yes i think they are healthy, no sign of flakiness or irritation. I got my legbars from down the road but hatched ebay duck eggs before, got 5 out of 6! good luck with yours.

cream legbars with white-green ears?

I have some cream legbar hens, chicks from April. Their earlobes are coming in a funny white colour, tinged with greenishness in the same way that glow-in-the-dark pigment is. Some of them have normal red ears though, some have patches of both. Is this normal or some kind of ailment? They are perfec...

Re: elderflower wine (or champagne)...

my other half has a problem with elderflower champagne - the last few years he's tried making it it always turns into a vinegar-smelling wallpaper paste. i reckon its because he likes to use the natural yeasts and not brewing yeast, so i think whatever good helpful yeasts are there are not present i...

Re: what to do with myself and my land...

thomzo - you may be right, we have a lot of blaeberries growing wild here, which i think are basically runty blueberries. and willow loves it here. i've been wanting to try growing blueberries anyway, if they do well it might be worth thinking about, they seem super expensive in the shops anyway!
