Lower cholesterol levels without $$$products?

My wife was told by her docter that she should take care of her elevated cholesterol level.
Is there an alternative to those so-called healthy margerines, like a herb tea or other food supplement?
Or perhaps a specific diet?

Re: Forest garden fruits

The fig variety called Turkey brown seems to do well in the Dutch climate, although not this year.
Have you looked at Pawpaws? Hardy stuff...

I've grown a grape variety called Rembrandt,it was a true wine-breed and thrived in cool summers.
Had to machete it back in shape every 2 weeks...

Re: Butternut squash problems,help please!

Butternut, yummm. I like them roasted, dressed with a spiced olive oil mix by J.Oliver... Back on topic,I had 3 small squashes from 5 plants, and the weather is getting colder. Same problem with my fig tree, about a ton of mid-sized unripe figs and no chance they'll ripen further. Basicly this was a pre...

Re: Nasturtium pesto

Well,It's not really a recipe, think of it as a guideline...
Anything can be added to a pesto, well, almost.
Pinenuts, hazelnuts, wallnuts, hard cheeses like Parmezan or Manchego are all good.

Chive and hazelnut pesto is fab on a cold chicken sandwich

Nasturtium pesto

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i184/scrapthrall/kers.jpg Tried to come up with something that requires a lot of the stuff. It was fully out of control... Lots of Nasturtium leaves,I used about 2 collanders full. 2 cloves of garlic Cashew nuts, about one cup. Olive oil, enough to make ...

Re: Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) Extracting Raw Juice

May I ask how you work with that sieve?
Do you forcefully rub the clusters of berries over it or do you shake it back and forth?

Looks incredibly handy, I just spend hours ripping them from the stems with a fork... :?
