Re: Just for a laugh.

What is the best thing about Switzerland? Frankly, leaving it . How to lose my sense of humour in seconds....Ridiculously expensive, full off strange people, (hideously xenophobic ) they seem to think they're so superior while living up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, getting rich on investing la...

Re: planning help... pretty please...

Agree with much of the above(but wouldn't bother with family trees, sorry DND,I've just never seen one produce more than three cordoned varieties that took up little space, say on M9. Your area is slightly bigger than the area I've put down to fruit.I'm personally a big fan of cordoning EVERYTHING,it'...

Re: Rhubarb advice needed

Well ,they ARE tough little blighters, but this hasn't been the easiest of years, bloody cold followed by super dry.Personally I wouldn't take any fruit the first year, letit grow up ,then wither away, to get some strength up for the future.mulch with as much compost/ FYM/something equally nice etc and...

Re: More apple rootstock.

Surely it would be worth taking one of the shoots with a bit of root, planting that out to establish itself, then in winter cutting it back, covering with earth, then the following year this should send up several shoots which you can divide and you will have several rootstocks suitable for graftin...

Re: More apple rootstock.

I'm not sure what you mean,if you remove the suckers, how will you grow them on? Spose you could wait till they're dormant then take them off,and then treat them as hard wood cuttings, but it sounds like me a bit of a faff.....easier to get some good'uns (any fruit tree supplier will sell you a couple...

Last man standing

When we got here 9 months ago,the garden was a fine lawn enhanced with several mature decorative shrubs and a variety of interesting well grown herbaceous subjects. Contrary to the 1977 Geneva Conventions,(Article 54,Protocol 1) banning Scorched Earth policies,I've changed all that.. One of the few ...

Re: can they do this to him??

The thing is(and ask the CAB to confirm) but if you are registered as unemployed, you will get loads more opportunity to get set up grants for new businesses,as well as all the above mentioned benefits. It used to be that you had to have signed on 6 months, but this is changing rapidly.2 years ago(or t...

Re: can they do this to him??

In short, probably yes.Self Employment ,by and large,in the UK at least, means you are exempt from 99% of any ' workplace'rights 'enjoyed' by people who work 'on the books'.(Why d'you think the Govt are so keen on self employment?) That's not me being all political,Iv'e only worked on the 'books' for ...

Re: Homemade Sausage/Burger Recipes

99% of blackpud is made with dried ingredients, with water added.Even the small 'specialist' butchers do this(although they will often tweak the standard mix with added stuff),here's why. To make BP in the old fashioned way,you strung up the animal then stuck it in the neck.Younger member of the fami...
