Another mushroom ID - Brown Birch Bolete?
Here's another ID - thanks for all the help so far - I've got this one as a Brown Birch Bolete - any thoughts? Yes they are shaggy parasol. You can see that it's physically similar to your previous mushroom, save for the brown flecks on the cap and the extent of the ring. They can be told from Field Parasol by the slight red staining of the flesh in Shaggy and the lack of brown snake-like marking as seen on...

if it is a shaggy parasol (and I'm looking for guidance here!) then yes, BUT some people have a bad reaction to them, either in terms of a skin rash or stomach upset. My next-door neighbour works at Kew, and he's happy to eat them, but he's also 17 and therefore immortal.mockturtle wrote:edible?

Thanks for that Jack - looks very plausible. Stem is in the bin now but I've recorded the details and I'll check if they reappear.

Please don't take my word for this but it looks like an ordinary mushroom to me but someone on here will no doubt know exactly what it is. When I used to live in Dorset we used to go out early in the morning and pick bag fulls of mushrooms, thinking back we never had any books for identification :d...
