Re: What i'm brewing at the moment

I've just put on:
1 X Orange Wurzel (with less juice but more sugar than the recipe above)
1 X Ribena Wine

This'll be my first time for both of these, so fingers crossed!

Re: Make your own ginger beer plant.

I've been making my first batch over the past few weeks using the recipes and instructions above and cracked it open last night - I quite enjoyed it, but all my friends said it was far too gingery for them. Is this normal? Have I accidentally been using superginger, or do my friends simply need to b...

Need an excuse to rage? Read on...

My friend posted this on my Facebook wall (I'm of that generation, I'm afraid) and I thought you might all like *cough cough* to read it. There's an entire thread here devoted to your vitriol. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1335550/Merry-Christmas-Along-millions-middle-class-families-I-af...

Re: Gut a chicken

The only thing I'd add is that it's best to be quite gentle when you're scooping the guts out, else you could puncture the gall bladder. It's a little greenish ball attached to the liver that's full of bile, so makes the chicken terribly bitter if it's popped! That said, provided you don't go comple...

Re: Real Ginger Beer Plant

Hmmm. I was under the impression that you couldn't make the REAL Ginger Beer Plant, as it's a specific sybiotic fungal-bacterial pair? Have I got the wrong end of the stick somewhere?

Re: candle making

Can't help either I'm afraid, but I've been thinking of making candles in old Lyle's Treacle tins, which I think would look oddly nice for Christmas. No? Just me?

Tiny Flat Homebrew

Hi all, I'm currently a 'homebrew spectator' owing to my pitifully small flat in which the temperature fluctuates wildly, but read these threads and think 'ooh, wouldn't that be a lovely thing to do'. A single demijohn would take up about half of my kitchen space, but I wondered whether there was an...

Hi Everybody

Hi everyone,
I'm not especially self-sufficient at all really - making my own sloe gin is about the extent of it, especially as work dictates that I live in a pokey London flat. I'm eager and determined though, which I think is what counts!

Re: Real Ginger Beer Plant

Hi everybody, Does anybody still have any of the traditional Ginger Beer Plant knocking around that they'd be willing to post me for a small 'donation'? I know there are online shops that sell it (or similar), but I'm quite reluctant to pay the amount they're asking... I'd be really, really grateful...
