Re: Sugar
There is a school of thought that it is possible to obtain B12 from 'natural' sources. After all, you need less than half a teaspoon for a lifetime's supply. It runs like this: Some foods eaten straight from the wild without processing or washing (which is how our ape predecessors might have obtaine...

Re: Sugar
Thanks but slightly irrelevant - many (most?) vegans are aware specifically of B12 issues and, given that around half a billion children are malnourished, it's unfair to single out an extremely rare case of B12 deficiency. A reasonably and sufficiently varied diet of any sort will include several B1...

Re: Sugar

Re: Fat Chart by Country.
There's a lot of us odd people on Ish - we make loads of jam so buy loads of sugar. Ummmm and cakes too! Yes, I'm odd too - I was there with my 2kg bag of white sugar the other day, making marmalade. (And it's very nice). I apologise, I really do  - it slipped my mind about the ...

Re: Fat Chart by Country.
Anyway, interesting about the people in Japan, I don't use sugar either. Coincidentally, a work colleague said to me about two weeks ago, "What kind of sugar do you buy? I'm trying to get something a bit healthier." I was struggling to remember the last time we bought sugar. We have some ...

Re: Fat Chart by Country.
Strange how Ireland is thirteenth - a vast proportion of people are overweight. Maybe they're not classed as 'obese'. But the ratio of fat to thin is, ermmm, gross. I think it's significant that, in the veggie/vegan group here in this county, I've made around forty to fifty new acquaintances and onl...

Re: Energy Alternatives
it is easier and cheaper to save a unit of energy that to try and generate it (by PV, water, wind or whatever) Very wise words. Everyone who thinks about the amount of money they pay without first seriously considering the amount of energy they use should have the words tattooed on their partner's ...

Iraq wanted to trade their oil in other than dollars.
Libya, coincidentally (or not) an oil-rich country, wanted an all-African dinar.
Iran want to trade their oil in other currencies.
Funny that.

Re: Breast feeding, socially unacceptable or not?
As a man, I can only have an opinion as it is entirely up to the women concerned. And my opinion is that it is one of the top, most wonderful things in this world, a mother feeding her baby; I almost feel jealous of a woman's ability to be so close and important to another creature. There are very f...

Re: Does anyone NOT have a television?
Never had nor wanted a tv BUT now we're being forced to pay a 'broadcasting charge' because of this government's failure to collect licence fees (oh and their insistence on paying the gambling debts of rich financiers has not a little to do with it).
