Re: 101 Things I Wish some-one would invent...

20 A device to prevent vehicles coming within a couple of feet of cyclists and pedestrians.*

LOL. We were vegetarian since 1990 - or so I thought. It dawned on me sometime in 2005 we were actually vegan...

:( :( :( :( :(

A great author, truly great. He's left a marvellous legacy.

And he was the inspiration for one of my favourite songs by a superb band (don't worry, he liked the song and was flattered):

Re: Geese - what do I need to know?

Yes, keep them away from areas you want to walk on...otherwise, they're excellent for keeping grass down (they won't eat tough stuff though). It's not easy mixing them with other birds as there's nearly always a domineering one who'll attack the newcomers occasionally and, for all geeses' famed fier...

Re: Almonds

Like many people, I like the taste of almonds and they are a very useful addition to the kitchen without requiring much fossil fuel processing. Perhaps those supplied to Canada are not of the best quality or is it something else?

Re: Rainwater harvesting project - continued

The funnel is a good idea but it's doubtful if much water would be collected. Our garden shed only ever collects enough water to fill a water butt during prolonged wet periods, which are rare enough.

Keep the ideas coming though!

Re: White Vinegar

If you know someone with a wholesaler's card (publican, shopkkeeper etc) you can ask them to get 5 litre catering containers of vinegar for you.

Make sure it is 5% though - there are two brands in a local shop here, the cheaper one is 4%.

Re: Should I get a freezer?

You'd be very hard-pressed to find an ethical electronics manufacturer Too true, sadly, though why it should often be so is annoying. I admit, some are better than others. And then there's Mondragon - I don't know much about them but they seem to be further down the 'ethical' route than other produ...

Re: Should I get a freezer?

I know Liebherr, Electrolux, LG, Samsung, Koc/Beko and Miele have connections with the armaments industry - Glen Dimplex, Whirlpool, Panasonic, Siemens, Bosch might be better bets (though they're just about all involved in dubious practices) but of course, it's up to you, TG. I see firearms as a goo...
