Re: Ban driven grouse shooting

Unfortunately the time ran out on the previous petition, so they have resubmitted it in order to gain enough support for it to be debated in parliament. Please sign and share again to give this cause the publicity it deserves!

OVO refer a friend

I have just moved into a new property and am looking to switch to a green energy supplier. I have found a good quote by Ovo energy, and so I was wondering if anybody here already uses them and could therefore "refer me" as a friend, in the process rewarding us both (current and new custome...

Re: Support renewable energy projects!

Yes, it would be. And I would actually like to change to a renewable energy supplier, but haven't found one yet that accepts folk on pre-pay-meters - or doesn't charge them a big wack of money to change to "normal" payment methods! (Not my choice - council.) I switched on a pre-pay meter ...

Ban driven grouse shooting

This is an animal rights issue, a conservation issue and a climate change issue, given the negative effects of driven grouse shooting on soil carbon storage, flood prevention and hen harrier survival. Support renewable energy projects!

Anyone can easily donate to or invest in one of these renewable energy schemes, which need to be funded by the end of November in order to beat the government cuts to renewables: http://www.energydash.org/projects/ Not only will you be helping these individual projects, but the more that get funded,...

Re: 101 ways to earn a little extra cash

36. If you live near a University with a psychology department, you can sign up to participate in research in exchange for cash, normally between £6 and £8 an hour in my experience. The research can range from wearing EEG electrodes on your head to simple spelling tests and games. Google "unive...

Re: Clean Bottle glasses

A Bottle Brush! That's what I need! Thanks! I've never had need for one before now... Although perhaps a little baking soda could be used instead of washing powder? I'm not sure I completely understand the bath plug chain suggestion. Unless it had been particularly well soaked I don't think you'd be...

Clean Bottle glasses

Does anybody have any tips on how to get right to the bottom of those wine glasses that are made from recycled beer bottles to clean them? Mine seem to become a haven for certain species of fungi as I can't clean them right down to the bottom of the 'flute'! http://www.greenglass.co.uk/cart.php?m=pr...

Re: Good Energy

They are very coy about how they work with their ROC surpluses. I suspect that they are in effect being hugely and stealthily subsidised by non-GE customers having to stump up the RO subsidy on their bills, and it getting transferred via the RO mechanism to GE - i.e. they may just be cynical subsid...

Re: Will Bovril Kill Me?

It's one of those "Scary statistics" that, when boiled down to its actual figures, is not so scary. Headlines say things like "Daily Pork increases risk of bowel cancer by 20%" 20% seems like a lot, but if the risk to an average person of getting bowel cancer is 5% to begin with,...

Re: How I lived on a pound a day for a year

Personally I think they deserve our thanks for reinforcing the warm glow of superiority we all seem to enjoy so much. It is quite an interesting book, but I did rather come to the conclusion that while she was living on only a quid of her own, she was spending quite a bit of other peoples' quids - ...
