Re: Cosmetics regulations and all that

MKG, are we discussing the difference between common sense/decency and the law? You would expect something you buy to do what it says on the tin, but is it required by law to be proven to work? Asking for someone (anyone) to back up any claim is perfectly reasonable, but evidence is not proof. I'm s...

Re: Cosmetics regulations and all that

Isn't this purely an issue of whether or not you are registered/'qualified' to sell medicinal products as apposed to cosmetic ones, not about if they actually work. I don't really see how listing some of the well documented healing properties of essential oils can be called making unsubstantiated cl...

Re: Don't let puppies near your wool!

hehe, ok. They are Labradoodle pups the lady I'm staying with in Devon has bred. Luckily for me some have sold though because I'll be looking after them on my own over the weekend and 4 is enough. Cute but still little terrors! http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6165/6219518337_cc800796cf.jpg http://far...

Don't let puppies near your wool!

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6111/6217060941_ab4fb3927a.jpg I found loads of lovely wool in the charity shop yesterday, a mohair polwarth mix. It was in skeins so I wrapped one round the back of the chair ready to wind into a ball, but then - disaster struck! I left the room and didn't shut the d...

Re: How to make your own natural alum crystal deodant?

I just have aluminium sulphate proper, the type that is made chemically and it does say it's an irritant on the label! ~Probably not a good idea to rub it on yourself. I've done a bit more reading about the deo sticks and they all say their alum comes from volcanic rocks?

Re: Knit socks without grief?

Zech I was so impressed with the speed of your knooking that I had to give it a go. I think the cord I'm using is far too short but the lovely bamboo hooks will arrive soon I hope, in the mean time I will keep practising. I found the link on the Ravelry knooking group, searching ebay UK only brings ...

How to make your own natural alum crystal deodant?

I've just bought a huge bucket of powdered aluminium sulphate to tan a couple of deerskin rugs with and wondered if it is possible to make some deodorant sticks too.

I've seen youtube vidoes for how to grow alum crystals but not sure if this is the same thing, or even the same type of alum?

Potter's Farm wrote:Hot water, white vinegar and lemon juice!! Works brilliantly, not much vinegar needed, lemon juice for scent as well as de-greasing.
How effective is lemon juice, could you use it to clean fatty oven trays?

Re: Washing up liquid alternative

Yes you can make a washing liquid by heating the soapnuts in water and then straining them out. It's not got much of a lather though and doesn't tackle grease all that well in my experience.

Try knooking instead, it's so much easier! I have blogged about this a bit... Re: weird and wonderful quotes

'Thames-Water taken up about Greenwich at Low Water, where it is free from all Brackishness of the Sea, and has in it all the Fall and Sullage from this great City of London, makes very Strong Drink. It will of it self alone, being carryd to Sea, ferment wonderfully, and after its due Purgations,11 ...
