Re: Cooking an old hen
we cook them overnight in water in the rayburn at about 120 - so a good 10 hours or so. then I use the meat to make pie and the stock (fat strained off) is reduced and used to make the sauce surrounding the meat.

Re: Home Schooling
for me - I already had a child that was withdrawn and shy - he has a learning disability and coping with other kids took up most of his energy with little left for learning anything. The other kids were lovely - but being on the spectrum - he found it hard. I home educated him from 12- 18 - and we h...

Re: who's got the oldest singer sewing machine on here??

Re: thermal store and solar panels
the set up we plan on at the end is a wood fired esse, contributing to a thermal store, with solar tubes also adding their bit. and a gas boiler for the times we have flu etc and dont have the energy to fill up the stove with logs. so far we have the thermal store , the economical gas boiler, the ol...

Re: Our first quinces
Homemade membrillo is worth the effort of growing quinces, although I have to make do with Percorino rather than Manchego cheese as an accompaniment. Just reading the recpie for membrillo makes me want to grow a quince to try it! I do have a Chaenomeles , but I've been semi-bonsaiing it for years a...

Re: Non Laying Chicken
assuming you have thought of the obvious health things like worms etc hens do often stop laying come summer - the peak is Easter - predictably! you can't make a non laying hen lay - other than taking away any problems - such as worms and mites etc. if she is still not much of a layer - well then it ...
