Re: elderflower crawling with minuscule bugs!

Yep, mine were crawling with what I now know are thrips. Wish I hadn't brought them into the house as I don't want them infesting my houseplants. I dried the flowers I had left over from winemaking, and obviously they are free of bugs.

Re: Please tell me Elderflowers don't taste...

Thanks Milly, I see I'm not alone!
I dried what I had left on trays in the greenhouse (shaded from the sun), and they smell rather nice once dry., but does anyone know what proportion to fresh I should use?

Please tell me Elderflowers don't taste...

I braved the near gale force winds this morning and picked my first ever batch of Elderflowers, a carrier bag full, which I really enjoyed doing. Got them home, and picked off enough flowers from the stalks to make two gallons of wine, which I did. I've put the rest on trays to dry in the shaded gre...

Re: Quittin' Smoking

Has any smokers amongst us ever taken (nasal) snuff? It seems the only way to cut down if you are a heavy smoker who doesn't want to quit. My Nan used to sniff snuff, and it's addictive. After all, it's ground tobacco. She used to get really irritable if she ran out, so I wouldn't say it's useful i...

Re: goji berry, advice needed please

Gogi's aren't the easiest plant. I grew about 15 from seed I got from berries bought in T***o, and of those only one has made it to transpant in my garden. I read on an American growers site that they don't like being transplanted and take a while to settle down.

Re: What fruit can I plant here?

Thanks for all the advice. I'll have a look at the best root stocks for the available space. I'm lucky to live in a area that has some specialist nurseries, can't wait to go shopping!

Re: What fruit can I plant here?

Thanks Red, I'll give it a go, after I've added loads of horse manure 'cos the soil round here is rubbish.

Hi Chicken Feed, you're not a million miles from me, so if you have some goat available this year, please would you let me know?

Regards, Marie

What fruit can I plant here?

I have a bouhdary wall/fence which faces south east and gets direct sun from first thing til about 2pm (this time of year). It's in my veg garden and I would like to plant some fruit trees to train against it, ideally a plum, sweet cherry and maybe a greengage. Would these thrive in that situation? ...

Hi All, I'm happy I found this site

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this site and I am happy to have found it. I was actually searching for an Elderflower wine recipe when I came across the forum and thought there were some very interesting and informative posts, and you all seem a friendly bunch! I've only just got into wine...
